Chapter 2

I woke up and remembered that this would be the first day I would be alone in this old house. I get up and put on my undergarments, blouse pants and boots. After sliding my small blade into my right boot I put on my cloak and head down to the kitchen.

Nurse would no longer be able to make me breakfast so I grabbed an apple from the overly sized fruit bowl and left the house. I decided that I should go ask Farmer Rake if he needed help with the cattle for a small pay. That is until I find a better job to sustain my health. On my way to the farm there was a man shouting from atop a wooden wagon of hay. I couldn't quite hear what he was saying until I was about 2 yards away.

"Here ye Here ye. Which one of you slums will be the kings new guard ? Step right up and test your strength to see if you are worthy. Any man is eligible. The job comes with a beautiful pay if you live long enough to get it."

Sounds good enough for me. I would be skilled enough too. Ever since I heard Nurse talking about love solving everything I knew she was crazy. So I took it upon myself to learn self defense. After that I enjoyed the art and learned more combat.

"What about a Woman ?" I spoke up from the edge of the crowd. Everyone turned and acknowledged me and were silent. The man on the wagon chuckled and said "Are you serious love ?" Everyone in the crowd began to laugh and it irritated me highly when people underestimate me. I looked and noticed there was a wall behind.

I took my knife and flung it at the wall purposely knicking the man's ear. When the metal struck the wood everyone was silent again. The man reached up to his ear and brought his fingers back down red. I began walking and the crowd quietly parted. I jumped up on the wagon got my knife and turned back to the crowd.

"If any of you-" I pointed my knife towards the crowd " and I mean any of you have a problem with women doing something men can." I put my knife back in my boot and walked back through the crowd. After getting 3 feet away I turned and said "You take it up with me. Now back to my question, What about a woman."

The man finally regained his composure "Um yes any woman that wishes may try out." I smirk " Good, becuase I was afraid we were gonna have another problem." I get bored and walk away. I didn't even really want the job. I just wanted to show their sorry little butts up. But it pays good so why not.

After leaving Rake's and 4 other places unsuccessful I finally came across a small shop that had a help wanted sign. It looked like a nice quite woodshop and the most I could possibly be forced to do is sweep up wood shavings right? I stepped in the shop and looked at some of the statues. A bear, a Blade, a flame, typical stuff so I turned towards the counter and looked for anyone who could possibly work there. "Um Hello ??"

A small thud comes from under the counter and a small pudgy woman with grey hairs popped up from where the sound come from. "Hello how could I help you today?" She says with a Sincere voice looking at me with big eyes. "Um I saw the help wanted sign outside the window" I say pointing towards the door with my thumb. "Oh I wasn't expecting someone to come so soon, uh yes thank you but I think I am alright for now."

I'm confused.. "If you didn't need help why bother with the sign?" It really didn't make sense. "I'm sorry dear but-" "Please Miss I really need a job. I'm willing to do any kind of work." I plead desperately. If I didn't find a job soon I might never find one. "She walked around the counter and stood on her tip toes to look me in the eyes before speaking again. "Oh, alright. You start.." She looked into my eyes again making me move back a little " The day after tomorrow. Now shoo." I smile a big grin before saying "Thank you so much" and walking out of the store.
