Storm's POV
"So, all the Team Crafted members are in the squid's base. From what the book said, they're in two separate places, in cells."
We were sitting in the clearing, and Crazy was telling us about the squid's base, drawing a map in the dirt. Aura didn't need one -she's able to create a map in her mind- but I need to see things with my eyes to understand. Crazy drew two corridors in the dirt with her stick.
"I'm guessing that they're at opposite ends of the base, but I don't know, since the book never said that," she explained.
"But you don't know," Aura said.
Crazy spread out her hands. "The book didn't explain it. In fact, I didn't even get up to Mitch being put in a different cell, but I can tell that it's happened."
"So how are we going to know for sure where everyone is?" Aura questioned.
"We need someone to go in there. We don't want the squids to know we exist yet, so we need someone who is super sneaky," Crazy started.
"Yeah," Aura said, catching on. "Someone who is really agile and can be really quiet when they want to be."
"And if they can teleport, that's a bonus!"
It took me a minute to realise that they were both looking at me. It took me another minute to realise that they wanted me to go into the squid base and snoop around for information.
"NO! No way, nuh uh, not happening," I said, waving my hands in front of my face to emphasise my point.
"Oh come on Storm!" Crazy pleaded. "Out of all of us, you stand the best chance! All we want you to do is go in and walk around."
"Yeah, you want me to walk around a place that is PACKED with squids," I told her.
"Storm, Crazy's right," Aura started. "You have the best combat magic that can be used in close quarters. I would be useless in that base cause I have no way of hiding or escaping."
"But you have enhanced eyesight and hearing. You would be able to find out more than me," I argued.
"I still can't get out!" she shot back, but I wasn't finished.
"And Crazy, you can just stop time and look around! There's no need for us to go in there at all!"
Crazy stood up and put her hands on her hips. "Storm. You know it doesn't work like that. In this dimension, I would only be able to hold the time for a few minutes. That's not enough to scout around and escape. You are the only person who can get in and get out. So suck it up and get in there!"
I sighed, knowing that I had lost the argument. After standing up, I strapped my two swords onto my back and got ready to teleport. I crouched at the edge of the forest, looking at the base and finding a place to teleport to. There was a rustle in the leaves behind me and Aura came beside me.
"You know that we've got your back right?" she said.
I nodded.
"So what's your plan?"
"I'm going to teleport in three stages," I told her, pointing to the entrance 50 metres away. "I'm going to teleport to the skylight that is above that door. From there, I'll be able to teleport inside and then to a quiet place where I can start exploring."
"That's a really risky plan," Aura said. "Are you sure it's going to work?"
"It's the best chance I have."
"You do know what happens if we fail right?"
I nodded. When we came here, we vowed to change the circumstances of this dimension, and to remove any memory of us when we left. If we failed in that mission, then this entire dimension, and everyone in it, would be destroyed, never to return. Every memory of it, every thought, everything. Gone forever. The only record of this dimension ever existing would be in the memory of myself, Aura and Crazy. This has only happened once before, and we have vowed to never let it happen again.
