In this story, there were two boys in Eastern Germany who shared a similar feeling, but felt as though they were separate.
The first boy, Ludwig, was merely 7 years old at the time this takes place, during the second World War. He had silvery blonde hair that was in a very neat, slicked back style with slight sideburns. It appeared to be on the short side and maybe one even length. His intriguing light electric blue eyes were always narrowed, as if he was constantly concentrating on something. They shone with innocence, even through the hardships he suffered. His skin was nearly the perfect mixture between pale and tan, but due to the conditions he lived in, it stayed more on the pale side. Ludwig’s facial features matched his personality; serious.
Due to Ludwig’s perception of life, he always appeared to be serious. People, children especially, were kind of wary of him because of his quiet, pensive nature. He didn’t really know how to treat people so . . . He was curt with them. He was very strict with the things he did, he didn’t like to see anything out of place and he was quite neat with his work. The only reason why he was ever like this was because he didn’t want to seem like a goofball (lack of better words), he didn’t want to see like someone happy-go-lucky to other people so he just forced himself to remain calm. Unfortunately, these traits and his physical feature scared other people, causing them to stray away from any friendship they may have had.
The second child was a little bit older than the first, at 10 years old. He kept to himself, never seeming to belong in the society he lived in. Since Gilbert was a victim of Albinism, his skin was a very fair, almost translucent color, purple-y veins running throughout his body. His hair was a ashy white blonde that sat kind of limply atop his head, there was no real shape to it except for a slight fringe; it wasn’t too long either, but still a decent length. His eyes contrasted to his pallid hair and skin; they were the color of darkened rubies, but they sometimes shone this bright reddish color, almost like a dark pink. He had a slightly round, boyish face shape and a lanky body.
Gilbert, despite the fact he had little to no friends, was an outgoing and determined child. However, he’s somewhat arrogant and has a massive ego, which also causes the other children to stay away from him. He appears to be a delinquent, but is actually a punctual and intelligent person. Gilbert’s also very loyal to anybody who comes into his life.
The two meet, instantly disliking the other. However, isn’t that usual for two small boys in competition? As the war strays on and more troubles reach the two, they realize that maybe they should ally up. Watch as these two face the difficulties of surviving in war together! You all just might be a little surprised.
