My mind raced to find an explanation to this undeniable bond forming between us. My eyes searched his desperately, hoping the answer lied in their deep blue depths. He slowly leaned towards me, his calloused hand lightly caressing my cheek, my brain scattered, unsure of how to react to his touch.

"Don't be scared." His voice sent shivers down my spine, mainly shivers of fear. My eyes skipped from him to the red haired woman wearing a long white lab coat, then back to his ocean eyes. I frantically pushed myself away from both of them, sliding against the headboard of the hospital bed. I shook my head violently, attempting to block out the attraction my body had to this stranger before me. "I would never harm you."

"Clause, her heart rate is spiking. I need to sedate her or sh-"

"NO." His loud voice startled me, shaking my fragile bones. His eyes were dark, obsidian and his voice was practically a growl.

I was scared earlier, but now I was absolutely terrified.

Suddenly everything around me darkened, memories infiltrated my brain.

Darkness. It's a strange thing. Its name would make one believe that it is black, midnight. But even midnight has light, you can see shadows in the dark, movement, so you are never truly, completely, in total black. There's always movement.

Behind my eyelids there is movement, greens, and yellows mixing and shifting, creating shapes and shadows. I watch the lights, as they flow in the deep and murky waters of my conscience.

Beyond the lights laid my soul, my emotions. The pain of my heart lingered there, a fiery red color, spiraling between the greens and yellows, taunting.

The pain grew until it blocked out every other feeling, leaving behind only fire and heat.

The darkness disappeared as my eyelids shot open, a ragged scream rang through my mind.

Fire.

The fire was everywhere, it engulfed my body, my soul. It ripped through my blood, spreading to my fingers and then bouncing back to my heart.

My body felt as if it was being torn apart and then burned back together, like pieces of metal being forged into a sword. A sword that stabbed into my writhing body, exploding pain into every nerve and every cell.

Ice.

The cold landed on my shoulders, then my cheeks. It pushed back the fire, forcing it out of my body and into the air where it sizzled and went out.

My eyes attempted to focus, the ice cooled everything, giving me back control.

I was brought face to face with an angel, the angel. The one who promised to never hurt me, the one who fought the fire with ice.

"Focus on me." Unconsciously my eyes followed his command until there was only him, only his ocean eyes. The ice continued to spread, putting out the flames, taking the pain with it. He broke eye contact, turning away from me.

I took in my surroundings. I was in a bathroom, the white walls and shiny tile made me squint, it was so bright.

I looked down at myself, finding that I was in a bathtub full of ice cubes and cold water, my clothes were sticking to my protruding bones and my long hair was matted to my shoulders.
