A Chance

Narrator's POV

Knuckles and Sonic laughed as Rouge had just told them an old funny story. They were all happy and laughing, but all that ended soon.

"Hi Guys!" Shadow nearly shouted.

"Ah!" Gasped Rouge. "Don't scare me like that!" She mentioned.

"Scare you? I scared you?" Shadow asked. His eyes had dark bags under them and his hair was all messed up. His eyes were a shade of pink instead of white. He looked like a zombie. "I didn't know I was so scary." He chuckled.

"Oh, gosh..." Rouge sighed. "Shadow I told you to get some sleep. You're sleep deprived."

"S-Sleep deprived?" Shadow smiled. "N-No I'm not. I'm perfectly fine!" He smiled widely. "I'm fine! I'm fine! I'm super fine!" He laughed.

"No you're not. You're not acting like yourself." She stated.

"Rouge, I'm fine." He said getting annoyed by her warnings.

"No you aren't. You need to go to the nurse's office." She took his arm and pulled him, dragging him to the cafeteria doors. Sonic and Knuckles stared.

His attitude changed quickly. He planted his feet, jerking her back.

"Shadow you need to go-"

His attitude darkened. He took her by the neck and picked her up. She gasped, Knuckles got up and started to run over to her. "Now you listen here, bitch..." People gasped and stared. "You don't tell me what to do..." His voice was low and dark. "...or I'll rip you to pieces." Shadow noticed the threat coming.

"Leave her alone!" Yelled Knuckles ready to punch, he threw his fist at Shadow; but it was caught. Knuckles looked at him dumb founded. Shadow turned to him and pushed him back, making him fly and land on top of a table. People yelled and hurried out of the building. He yelped in agony. Sonic super sped to Knuckles. Rouge gasped for air, her time was almost done.

"You got that..." Shadow growled before disappearing and dropping her. Her wings spread to soften her fall.

"Ah!" He gasped and began coughing.

"Rouge!" Knuckles gasped as he was being helped by Sonic. He got up and out of Sonic's arms and ran to his lover. Sonic followed, a few people remaining stared at them. They helped her up. "Are you alright?"

"Yeah." She said as her cough ended.

"Why did he?" Sonic asked.

"I don't know...but one thing is certain..." She said looking at the people around them. "He's more powerful than we thought."

Sonic looked at the people around too, they all stared at them in fear. Some embraced each other. "They're scared..." He mentioned.

"Of us..." Knuckles said.

"We have to go." Rouge said.

"Why-"

"Stop right there!" Shouted an officer with a gun, others came in after him.
Sonic embraced the two of his friends. "Stop or I'll shoot-"

Sonic ran with two away before the bullets came to the wall. There were screams coming from the school. They sat on top of a green hill, staring at the school that was in total chaos and confusion.

"Where do we go now?" Asked Sonic.

"I know...follow me." Rouge said walking away.

"Wait, what?" Asked Knuckles.

"I know a place not far from here..." The two males followed her.

"But what am I gonna tell my mom?" Asked Sonic.

"She already knows, G.U.N has warned her. I told them about your ability, like I told them about all our abilities. She decided it'd be the safest thing to protect you. All our parents did it. All but Shadow..." She sighed.

Nothing was making sense for Sonic. He felt so useless, he thought this was all a dream. A big dumb dream. It couldn't be happening.

Sonic's POV

"There was a report about a few students at this school I'm standing in front of. They had all tried to stop, what seemed a villain-" I turned the TV off and threw the remote across the remote.

It's been a week since the school incident, and it's still in the news. I sighed.

"Rouge, I'm going out for fresh air..." I told her.

"Alright, don't let anyone see you." She said.

"Please, I'm the fasted thing alive." I told her.

"Be safe..." She said. I opened the underground compartment door and stepped outside for the fresh air. I gave the city a few runs. No one saw anything, and if they did...they said it was just  strong gusts of wind. It felt good to be out in the open, I loved the outdoors.

I felt like I could run for hours out here, but my time was limited out here for safety reasons. I ran around the local park and sped through water.

"What a view..." I sighed as I sat on top of a green hill watching the sun go down. It was truly a beautiful sight. I rarely get to see this, since we hide under ground. Things have been circling my mind lately...

Tails...

Amy...

Shadow...

Why would he act in such way to Rouge about being sleep deprived? And he has strength, more than others. He sent Knuckles flying with ease. Why did he do it though? Is he actually a villain? Does he not really woke for the G.U.N? And where is he now? Could he be planning to attack again?

What does he really want?

Did he have to do anything with Tails? He did seem suspicious when he talked about him.

And Amy has been missing, did he have to do something with her too?

Narrator's POV

Sonic decided to go back to the base, he got up and stretched. He started with a light jog, but stopped. There was a scream, someone needed help.

He followed the screams of distress. It lead to a house that had a window smashed. He hesitated, but went inside. It was the right thing, to help those in need.

He hurried in. "Hello? Is anybody here?" He asked.

"Good night!" He was hit, the lights darkened.
