Hannah's P.O.V

I bounded home and shifted back to a human before I got inside. I got inside to see my mom setting out plates for dinner.
"Time to eat, Hannah." My mom told me.
"I'm not hungry." I responded and jotted upstairs where my room is.
I usually eat a lot of meat while I was out there with my pack. I should contain myself from eating too much of it, or my mom will get even more worried than she already is. I've been rejecting dinner for almost a week. She will probably have a talk with me soon.
The creak of the door sounded, and my mom peeked through. "Honey, we need to talk. It's about you not eating dinner." She told me as she stepped into my room.
See? There she goes.
"Why aren't you eating? Are you depressed about your father being gone?"
My father died in a war almost a year ago. He and I used to do everything together. We were real close.
"No. I'm fine. I'm just not hungry."
"But you haven't been eating much lately. I'm getting worried about you." My mom told me with a worried expression on her face.
I walked up to her and smiled to let her know I'm fine. "Mom. I'm ok. I'm just really tired, that's all."
"Oh. Ok." She said with a weak smile and hugged me. "Get some rest."
"Love you, mom."
"Love you too, honey." She said and kissed my cheek and left.
I looked out the window at the stars. I heard a little pig squeal from below. I glanced down but can barely make out if it's a pig or an Entelodont. I heard it scramble away into the woods, and the bushes rustled.
I decided to forget it and turned off the light and fell asleep.

I arrived at school the next morning and met up with two friends of mine, Eric and Skylar.
"Hey!" I exclaimed as I walked up to them.
"What's up?" Eric asked.
"Hey, Hannah." Skylar responded.
"I got something to share with you, Hannah." Eric told me. "Unless you've already watched the news."
"I haven't." I told him.
"They caught a mammoth on tape from afar! But some people said it was a fake."
"I think it's a fake." Skylar said and rolled her eyes.
I smiled a weak smile. "Really? That's cool."
"What? You don't believe it either?" Eric asked.
"I just don't know if I should believe or not." I lied.
Eric smirked. "Well, I'm gonna try and capture it on tape, and you two are gonna come with me to be witnesses!"
"No way! That will be a waste of time!" Skylar objected. "I refuse!"
"Too bad!" Eric argued some more. "I'll drag your sorry butt with me to show you evidence that there are mammoths still roaming around the place!"
Skylar rolled her eyes again and replied, "have fun trying to get me to go with you."
They're siblings, and they always fight. They argue about everything.
"Aww. Come on sis!" Eric pleaded.
"Nope! Sorry." Skylar protested and walked away.
"Will you come, Hannah?" Eric asked.
I sighed. "Ok."
"Yes!" He screamed excitedly.
After school, Eric and I went off into the woods together. I just hope my mom doesn't get mad at me for getting home late. Eric and I stopped by a river and sat down in the grass. Eric grabbed a video camera and it's stand and sat it up.
"This is the place where they spotted the mammoth." Eric informed me.
I looked around while Eric finished setting the camera up.
"There. Now let's crouch down and wait." Eric said as he laid on his stomach.
I laid on my stomach. "It probably won't show up."
"It will." Eric said with confidence. "I know it will."
We waited for thirty minutes and there was still no sign of the mammoth.
"Look, Eric. It kills me to say this, but-"
"Look!!" Eric interrupted. "I see something!!"
I looked at that direction and heard a low growl.
"Uh.... Eric? Mammoth's don't growl. I'm pretty sure. Don't you hear that?"
Eric stopped prancing around with joy and listened and looked carefully at where the "mammoth" is. The creature came out slowly to reveal himself and growled some more. It's a short faced bear. Eric's smile rapidly turned into a frown and he started to back away.
"H-Hannah? I think our job is done here." He stammered as he slowly grabbed his camera and it's stand.
The short faced bear growled very loud and came charging at us.
"Run!" I exclaimed and pushed Eric forward to run.
We both ran as fast as we could, and Eric tripped over a twig.
"Help!" He yelled as the bear got closer.
I couldn't take the fact that Eric was gonna get eaten so I pounced over him, and while I was in the air, I transformed into a Hyaenodon. I roared ferociously and nipped the bear's long legs. Eric turned to face me and gasped. He crawled away a couple of feet away from us.
The short faced bear roared and stood on it's hind legs to size me up. I growled and aimed for it's neck, but the bear smacked me away. I tumbled to the ground and got up slowly with the bear roaring. Then I remembered where it's weak spot is.
The stomach! I thought and faced the bear again. It was still on it's hind legs, growling at me, waiting for my move. I growled and bit it's stomach. The bear wailed in pain as it tumbled onto the ground with me on top of it. I tightened my grip on it's stomach as it yelped. I let go and got off of it for it to have another chance to live. The bear got up and ran away.
I changed back into a human and glanced at Eric who has his mouth hanging. I sighed and held out a hand to help him up. Eric slowly grabbed my hand and I pulled him up.
"Eric. You got to promise not to tell anybody. Please."
Eric didn't say anything and staggered back a couple of steps.
"Eric. I won't hurt you. I promise. I'm the same old Hannah. Please don't tell anybody. It's a secret between you and me. Please?"
Eric sighed. "Ok. Deal." He held a hand out to shake it.
I shook Eric's hand, and we agreed to keep it secret.
