So if the water wasn't making the long (well 500m) journey across the Windsor Road, up over the railway line and on to the Slough Road where was it coming from? Let's go back to our first clue; water on the tracks, no trains running and let's think about the famous golf course. Remember the pictures of golfers up to their knees in water?

The earth banks, known as bunds remember, that should have kept the water on the flood plain, also known as Datchet Golf Course, weren't doing so. Water was making its way on to the railway line and being conveniently(or rather not!) delivered into the centre of the village. Now we remember are opposite one of the crossings so at one of the points where the water was beginning to ooze into the village.

The water was gathering outside the garage at the end of our road close to where the TV news crew were reporting from that first day but they were only there because it's a pretty bit the focus was still for some reason down the road around the river bank. The water gathering at the end of our road was just a big puddle wasn't it?

Unfortunately it wasn't. Soon the road through the village was to become quite literally a river.

We learned later that the Environment Agency suggested doing something in our area of the village but were dragged off  at the Parish Counil's insistence to inspect the works at Southlea Road
