Kurt's POV
~
Today was the day. March 16th. The day Chandler died. Saying today was hard for me is an understatement. It's the worse day ever. I always take off from work, lay in bed, watch home movies, cry, and visit his grave. I'm laying awake in bed looking at the ceiling when Blaine comes in bouncing on the bed."KURT WAKE UPPPPPP!! You have to get ready for work!!! Come on!" He said as he bounced up and down.
I turned on my side, facing my back towards him.
"Go away Blaine." I said."You're such a grump in the morning. Come on, babe! You have to go to work. Get a move on!" He towered over me.
"Not. Today. Blaine. Get. Out." I spat, closing my eyes as a tear rolled down my cheek.
I felt the bed stop moving."Kurt?" He said sincerely.
"Please get out..." I whispered.
"Kurt. What's wrong?" He placed his hand on my shoulder.
"Please. Just go." He got off the bed and slowly walked out of the room, shutting the door behind him.
I buried my face into my pillow and let the tears flow.Blaine's POV
~
"Hello?" Burt said through the phone."Hi. Mr. Hummel? This is Blaine." I said.
"Oh hey Blaine. What's up?" Burt asked.
"Um. Well. I don't know if I should be worried or not, but Kurt took off of work today and he's been laying in bed all morning. I tried to get him out there but he like, kicked me out. He was really harsh about it." I spoke nervously.
"Blaine. What's today?" Burt asked quietly.
"Ummmmm. March 16th, sir. Why?"
"Shit." Burt murmured.
"I'm sorry, sir? What's going on?" I asked.
"Today's the anniversary of Chandler's death." Burt said.
"Oh." I breathed.
"Just give Kurt some space for a little bit. Soon he'll come out of the room. Make sure he eats, okay? He'll pop some home movies in so, if you can, watch them with him. Once he's done, he'll want to go to Chandler's grave. Let him go. Don't go with him, he likes to be alone during this. When he gets back home make sure he eats again and hold him while he goes to sleep, try singing to him too. Got it, kid?"
"Yeah. Yeah. I've got it. You've done this a lot?" I asked.
"We went through this for 3 weeks after his death. And every year on this day."
"Why aren't you here today?" I asked.
"Because you're there with him and I knew my boy would be in good hands. Take care of him, okay? If you need anything else call me."
"Thank you, Mr. Hummel."
"Burt, kid." He said hanging up.
I set my phone down on the table and headed into the kitchen to start making something for Kurt.
Chocolate pancakes always made him happy so that's what it's going to be! I hope he still has some chocolate chips....
I rummaged around the kitchen looking for the ingredients. I had just finished the first pancake when I heard Kurt walk down the steps. I heard him rummaging through his movie drawers and then finally pop one in.
"Kurt! Get back here!!" I heard a kid giggle from the video.
"COME AND GET ME CHANDLER!!" A voice yelled back.
I finished making the pancakes and brought a plate into the living room."I'm not hungry." Kurt said as I handed him his plate.
"I don't care. You're going to eat." I placed the plate down on the coffee table.
He glared at me from the side as he leaned forward and cut into his pancakes, then focused back on the TV.
"You were adorable" I said as I watched a younger version of Kurt run around his yard being chased by another boy- Chandler I'm assuming."That was my mom." He pointed at the screen to a beautiful, tall, elegant brown haired lady standing in the doorway.
"She's beautiful." I said.
"I know."
Kurt finished his pancakes and brought his knees close to his chest. I got up, taking our dishes and rinsed them off, placing them in the dishwasher. When I walked back into the living room Kurt was laying on the couch facing the tv. I walked over, lifted his shoulders up and placed his head in my lap, lacing our fingers together. We laid there for a while. Occasionally I would feel Kurt laugh at something he had said or did. Sometimes I'd feel a spot in my jeans get wet from his tears. But I didn't say anything. I just sat there and watched the two young boys run around the yard, open Christmas presents, spend Thanksgiving together, dress up for Halloween. I watched them all until Kurt got up, wiped his tears away and took the tape out.
I followed him towards the front door.
"I want to be alone." He said throwing his shoes on."I know. I just wanted to give you a hug before you left." I said leaning against the doorframe.
"You're going to stay here?" He asked looking up at me.
"Of course. Where else would I go?" He got up and grabbed his coat.
"Do you know how long you'll be?"
"About an hour or two. Maybe longer. I'm not sure." He walked over and stood in front of me. I pulled him in for a hug and waited till I felt his arms snake around me.
"Be safe, okay? Tell Chandler I say hi." He pulled me in closer.
"I love you so much, Blaine. Never leave me." He sobbed.
"I wouldn't even dream about it." I said letting go of him and wiping his tears away.
"Go ahead. When you get back I'll have dinner for you. I love you." He grabbed his keys and opened the door."I love you too." He said shutting the door behind him.
