Chapter 16
Cold air blasted on my face as I stepped out of the hospital in the clothes Sarah had brought for me this morning. I was wearing a tight emerald green bodice with black lace and a pair of dark skinny jeans. I would finally get to go home; the only thing that worried me was what would be awaiting me at home. As today was my eighteenth I knew that nearly all the people I loved would be there. Minus one.
Sarah and I walked to the hospital car park where her car was conveniently parked right next to the entrance. There was something weird about Sarah today, she hadn't said a thing to me yet, not even a 'happy birthday'. Usually she would have been all over me. I must have done something wrong because little ever darkened her bright upbeat behavior. She rushed in front of me and opened the passenger door then quickly rushed to the driver's side.
We reached the house in five minutes. I remember my dad joking as a child that my mum must have picked this house because it was so close to the hospital. Part of me believed that but I doubted so much in anything my farther said. I tried to block out all thought as I made my way to the front door. Sarah had already reached it before me and was slowly opening the door.
When the door opened I could hear an array of voices and a spectrum of colors. Teachers from college were all there plus my closest friends. I could see Fran and the hang standing on the stairs with party poppers. Complete shock stunned my ability to move as many camera flashes all went off. I was being shuffled into the now empty living room, by whom I don't know. In the center there was a small stage where Aaron and his band were waiting. Everyone hushed each other as the piano began. Aaron kept his eyes on mine. He was the only form of stability I had at this moment so I stared back at him. Then his beautiful voice joined the music.
'I don't know where I'm at
I'm standing at the back
And I'm tired of waiting
Waiting here in line, hoping that I'll find what I've been chasing.
I shot for the sky
I'm stuck on the ground

I finally recognized the song he was singing. Without realizing that tears had already started to stream down my face I walked closer to him. This is my mum's song. This is her song. Out of nowhere a female voice carried on the song and Aaron was silent.
'Not ready to let go

what I could be missing
but I'm missing way too much
so when do I give up what I've been wishing for.'
Only when she has stopped singing and I had reached Aaron that the female voice belonged to me. But I didn't stop. He held my hand as we carried on singing the chorus.

When the song has finished all I could hear was clapping, all I could see was Aaron. All until my surroundings seemed irrelevant to me as I saw a dark figure in the back. Slowly stepping back with tears smothered on their face. 'Andy.....stay.' I whispered in my head as he left the house.
