~~~~~~~~~~~"THE ROGUES HAVE BREACHED OUR BORDERS! WOMEN, CHILDREN, HEALERS AND ELDERS TO THE PACK HOUSE! FIGHTERS TO ME AT THE NORTHERN BORDER!"
I scrambled out of bed, my head now pounding from the Alpha's mind link warning. The rogues are finally here and they're out for blood. They have been attacking packs all along the Canadian border of the United States starting in California and now they are here for our pack in Maine.
I throw on a pair of jeans that were on my floor and grab a sports bra to put on under my loose night shirt as I sprint down the stairs to the door of my small little house. I had moved out of my parents house when I finished my general education at the local high school and since I'm not mated to anyone, I decided to live alone a little bit away from my parents and the pack house.
My naturally high body temperature kept my toes from freezing off as I ran through the snowed forest towards the pack house. I could hear other pack members scrambling and yelling for their pups as they too made their way to the pack house.
"Roselyn!" I heard my mother screams from behind me making me turn around. Her ginger hair caught the early morning moonlight as it bounced up and down. She was dressed in her night gown but had put on a coat over the top to make sure she stayed warm.
Her fingers curled around my hand and we were off running again. Nothing was said between us as we finished the mad dash to the pack house, it was only when we were safely inside that we began talking.
"Sweetie I'm so glad you are ok." Mother says pulling me in for a tight hug, mostly to reassure herself that I was alright.
"I'm fine mother." I verbally reassure her some more and she finally pulls away. "They're finally here."
"They promised they would be." She had this far away look in her eye and I knew she was thinking about Dad. He was a fighter and he was out their right now making sure our pack wouldn't fall much like all the wolves before him.
I grip her hand making he refocus on me. "He will be fine mother, he always is."
"I know, I know. It's just a mates job to worry." She gives her body a quick little shake trying to rid herself of those what ifs.
I give her a tight smile and say, "Come on, they are going to need you soon once the attack stops and you need to have everything ready."
We walk further to the Great Room where everyone else is and it looked like mad chaos. Healers were rushing everyone seeing if they were alright and treating anything that need attention, pups were wailing and wanting to go home, and everyone was either talking or screaming about something.
Mother rushes off to join the rest of the healers and I was left to my own devices. I scanned the room quickly and found Marcie with the orphaned pups and my body moves over to them without a second thought.
"Oh Roselyn thank Goddess you're here." Marcie throws her arms around me in a suffocating hug, which I return. Marcie and I have gotten close over the past few years because of the more time I have been spending with these pups.
"How are they?" I ask her once the hug broke looking over the pups that I have come to think of as my own.
"Scared and confused, which is a normal reaction for them." Marcie informs me. I nod my head and go to the pups. There was only a handful of them, about ten or so, and they all looked so scared that it made my heart break
