Brigid is starting over. she has graduated high school and after living with her aunt in Europe and completely avoiding the house her mother died in ,she is starting college, living in a new house, and has a new guardian. Her dad.

Brigid's mother died a little over a year and 3 months ago after Brigid's high school graduation, when their house caught on fire. the police said it was a cooking accident and that her mom must have left the cookies for the bake sale in too long and they caught on fire, or maybe it was a gas leak, or maybe it was just because the stove in their house was old.

No one really knew. except for Brigid. she didn't have answers but she knew that it wasn't an accident. Her mom was too careful to let that happen and her mom would have tried to wake Brigid up if it were an accident.

Regardless of how the death of her mother occurred, it did. and there is no way Brigid could change that. It eats away at her everyday not matter what she is doing. As she cleans out her room to move to her dads and then the dorms, as she cleans out her mother's room and grabs things she would like to keep. well, she would like to keep everything of her mothers but as she walks through the house her and her mother use to live in and through the kitchen she realizes that her dads house is going to be much worse and much smaller. her fathers home is filled with his twins and his new wife and there absolutely perfect and posh life.

Her fathers home will be much worse because Brigids mother wouldn't be there. she wouldn't be there to make soup with spices that seemed to flow through the house and expand the walls, she would net be there to open curtains and paint the walls a different color to make the house seem cozier. Brigid's own home, whose kitchen was burnt so badly the walls are open completely to her back yard and there is nothing left that can identify room as the kitchen it once was, will always be bigger and better than her fathers. Because her mother lived there and her mother will always liven up a room. even if she wasn't alive anymore. Brigid would continue to live here on her own but although the construction workers covered the side of the house to keep people from breaking in while Brigid was in Europe with her aunt, the house is still a danger to live in. The foundations are faulty. But rye believes her fathers house will be the same way. with faulty foundations. So, Brigid keeps her mother's cardigans and sundresses as well as her quilt and a box of old pictures containing pictures of Brigid as a baby with her mother and father, because she cannot fit everything she would like to keep of her mothers, her energy or her belongings into her father's house.

She stands in her room as Her father walks down stairs to help her pack as much as possible into his new ford.

AS he re-enters the room she examines him. The only version she knows of him is the one she's seen in pictures. he isn't much different. He has sandy blonde hair, blue eyes and a masculine demeanor. He is a bit chubbier than he used to be but in a "I've-two-kids-and-am-well-fed" kind of way.

I guess now he has three.

He's wearing a silver cross around his neck.

" You aren't, wearing that in any of your pictures" she points out as she is picking up a box labeled dorm, and nods her head at her father's chest.

" Is it new?"

He gets the hint that she is asking if its from his new wife and shakes his head, taking the box from her and adding another onto of it. "I got it from yer mom before she and I split."

"Mom isn't religious?" Brigid questioned her father.

She furrows her brows and continues picking up a new box, she's definitely peeved that he took the first one from her. She could carry boxes herself. She was still capable of doing things.
