Genre: Angsty Fluff
"Y/N?" Jungkook says hushedly, breaking the calming silence between you two with his melodious voice. You picked your head up cautiously from its all too familiar place on Jungkook's chest and looked into his eyes, and from the twinkles in them as he stared back at you, you could tell he was thinking again.
You both sat and stared at each other for a while, Jungkook deep in thought, and you on the verge of it. You thought about the small things at first; the ice cream Jungkook had bought you at the beginning of this date that you inevitably got all over your shoes when you dropped it, the way you two had to keep twisting and untwisting the blanket so you could lay it down on the ground of the park, the way the stars made different shapes in the sky every time you looked up. But these small thoughts eventually turned into larger ones. You thought about how in 2 weeks, Jungkook would leave back for Korea. How you two met because you were late for class and he can draw. How over these 10 months, Jungkook has become your rock and you wouldn't have it any other way. How he had protected you from your worst living nightmare. How you kept your home life a secret because you didn't want him to pity you. How Jungkook eventually noticed the bruises that you desperately tried to hide with baggy hoodies and layers of makeup.

"Y/N, it's almost 85 degrees out here, don't you wanna take off that sweater?" Your friend says with a soft humored chuckle, but it stops when he sees the anxiety lacing your features. "Are you okay?" His sudden switch from playful to serious made his voice drop significantly lower and made you cower back in anticipation. You didn't want him to know and treat you any differently, you didn't want Jungkook to feel obligated to protect you. There was a silence between you two as you stood outside before school in the empty courtyard. The sound of the early spring breeze blowing the remnants of the past season was the only thing that made you aware of your senses. "I've seen the bruises." Jungkook says so softly that you barely hear over the rustling leaves, but you did. You did hear and now you couldn't stop the tears. Your breath caught in your throat and although you were outside, you felt as if walls were quickly closing in on you.
The one secret you tried your hardest to conceal was the one that he knows about and has known about apparently. Jungkook wrapped his protective arms around you and let his white t-shirt soak up your tears as you buried your face in his chest. "It's okay. I'll protect you. He won't hurt you again." He, referring to your dad. Ever since your mom passed away, your dad became a raging alcoholic and his only source to vent out his drunken rage was you. You and the now dusty vases you made in pottery class in the 5th grade that had littered the living room tables for years. You and the chinaware his mother gave your mother as a wedding gift and your mother was too scared to ever use, so she just displayed it in a cabinet. You and the walls that had been marked by past nights where your father came back with an empty bottle of vodka clutched in his right hand and his other hand curled into the impenetrable fist that you feared most.
As you stood in Jungkook's arms, his shirt stained with the tragic artwork of your tears, you finally felt safe. Safe from your dad. Safe from the pitied stares of strangers as you pulled your sweatshirt up on your neck. Safe from the emotions you felt every time you went to put fresh flowers on your mother's grave. You felt safe. You felt like the world wasn't such a terrible place. You felt like as long as you were in Jungkook's arms, time would stop and you wouldn't have to face your harsh reality. And that's when the tears stopped, because you realized one thing and one thing only in that moment.
Jungkook was your reason.

You didn't realize you had drifted back to your own thoughts until you were being jostled by a concerned Jungkook. "Babe, what's wrong?" He lifted up an attentive thumb to wipe away the loose tears that fell from the corners of your eyes. You gave him a shy smile as you reached up and grabbed the hand that so carefully wiped your tears away. "I'm fine," you said, and as soon as the words came out your mouth, Jungkook was ready to object, but you shushed him by continuing to speak, "I... I just remembered all the shit I had to go through to be this happy. And the fact that you stayed by my side the whole time... I just really appreciate you Jungkook.... no, I love you. I love you Jeon Jungkook. I love you and I can't imagine my life without you or your smile or your smell or your strong arms wrapped around me when I needed it most. And soon, you're going back home, an-....and I'll never see your smile or breathe you in or feel your arms around my waist..." By then, small tears had brimmed Jungkook's eyes, and he stared at you in a loving way. He brought you closer to him as more tears spilled out your eyes. He wanted with all his will to just hold you and cry as well, but he had to stay strong. For you. And with that thought, Jungkook sniffled away the threatening tears and readjusted your position so that you were sitting across from one another, his fingers gripping warmly on your heaving shoulders as you continued to sob, too distracted by tears to notice the new seating position. It took a bit of time, but Jungkook eventually calmed you down and your puffy eyes were able to meet his gentle gaze.
