CHAPTER 1

I ran through the dark, old woods. I ran as hard as I could, all the while glancing back to see if it was still after me. I've never been so scared in my life. I was only on my way home from the school and this is what I encounter. Now, I really wish I brought a coat, it's freezing out.

I slip on some snow and slush as I run behind a tree and sit there, panting. The cold makes it possible to see my breath when I exhale. I hear close footsteps. I turn a bit to see around the tree and see a black figure in a trench coat, looking around. It turns its head towards me quickly. I jump and put my head back where it was. I close my eyes, hoping it didn't see me.

It goes silent, so I open one then the other eye. I stand up and and I'm still holding the tree trunk. I peek my head out to glance around the open space where the thing was. I sigh, knowing it's not there anymore. I also let go of the tree and step out from behind it, with my hands hugging myself.

Suddenly, I hear a twig snap and heavy breathing behind me. I turn my head slowly and slightly to see what it was. I see the thing, kindof like a man, in a stance that looks like it's about to attack. The thing smiles and all I see are pearly white fangs. It laughs and dodges forward and opens its mouth wide. It grabs me harshly, then exposes my neck. It uses its fangs and bites down hard on my neck. I feel the sharp pain and the loss of life contain me. It goes dark.

"Aahhhh!" I sit up in my bed and reach my hands up to my neck for any wounds. Just a dream. The alarm reads 7:15, then beeps, since I'm already up, I push down the off button. I stretch my arms out and yawn. Throwing my blankets back and getting out of bed, I pull on my jeans, change my shirt, and place my earbuds in my ear; blasting Skeptics and True Believers by The Academy Is. I sling my bag over my shoulder and head out the door, jamming to my music.

I get downstairs before everyone else. I put bread in the toaster, turn on the kettle, and sit at the island; reading my favourite magazine. I'm on the fourth page when the toaster pops and the kettle goes off. I get up, pull out one earphone and get a mug out of the cupboard. I pour the boiled water into the cup with a mango, peach teabag in it. Next, I get the peanut butter and jam; spreading it on my not-burnt toast.

I finish my drink and breakfast. I hear a horn honk from outside and I put my dishes in the sink, grab my bag, coat, scarf, then head out the door where my friend is waiting in her white jeep. I jump in without opening the door.

"Finally, Danielle. How long does it take, I have to get to school before everyone is in class." She laughs and starts to drive down the street. She's like that sometimes.

"Sorry, Lilian," She glares at me because I know she hates her full name. "I like to have breakfast before I sit around all day. It is the most important meal of the day." I smile. She goes quiet. I win that one. We turn up the music a bit and we're just laughing and singing along to the lyrics, when we drive by the Oaks Forest. There's police cars and an ambulance all around. They're pulling out a bloody bodybag on a stretcher.

"Huh, wonder what happened." Lily asks retorically, slowing down a bit to get a better look at what was going on. The music was turned down. I get a feeling in my gut that actually know what happened.

"Don't know, maybe there was an accident or something." Yeah, or something. She speeds up and we're back to our original speed and we sit in silence.

We arrive at school, she parks and we both get out. Lily puts up her jeep top and locks the doors. We see our friends waving, so we start to walk over to the front of the high school building.

"Do you believe in visions and stuff?" I ask her in a quiet voice. I'm a little bit shaky and spooked by that dream now.

"You mean like, the supernatural and psychic type of stuff?" She looks at me with a curious face.

"Yeah, that. Do you believe in it?" We reach the boys and one girl, Ryan, Kyle, and Allison.

"I guess I believe in it" We've fully stopped walking and now we're facing eachother. I hear Kyle's voice interrupt.

"Believe in what? Great kissers?" He grabs Lily and kisses her on the lips fully. Right in front of me, BLECK. I walk over to Ryan and Allison, while Lily has her makeout fest.

"Hey." They say at the same time, they're twins so it's freaky when they speak at the same time.

"Hey, let's go to class before they go even further and we get in trouble for being late." They nod and we all head into the front doors, already anxious for the end of the day.
