Settling In

It wasn't long before the team got back from their mission. Markus was sitting on one of the highest balconies on the compound when he saw the airship land in the designated area. There were so many people pouring out a huge ship. There were three robots, a very short man, and the one and only Lúcio Correia Dos Santos! After him came D.Va and Reinhardt the Lion. He smiled when the large robot saw him and waved to him, he waved back.

McCree had said that he was allowed to go wherever he liked on the base as long as he stayed on the compound and didn't wander off into the city abroad. Earlier in the week he had nodded at Winston, McCree's commander, and wondered how he got so smart given that he was raised on the moon. Mercy made him eat something but he couldn't keep out of his mind how much she was like his mother. Except she wasn't his mom. Mom was dead. Then there was the lady that called herself Pharah. In all honesty, she intimidated Markus because she always looked ready for duty, ready to arrest if he did anything wrong. He liked her though, she was very pretty.

After they all settled in and began to rest, Bastion, as he heard from the people below call the big robot, came up to Markus, beeping a greeting. The robot was great company despite the gun on his back. If his little bird trusted him, then Markus could trust him. Birds had a good idea of who to trust.

Still, even on the roof of the building, Markus wasn't ever truly alone. There was always someone else on the roof. The other two robots, well one robot, and one cyborg. Zenyatta was the omnic monk and Genji was the cyborg ninja usually sat on the balcony next to his and Bastion's, meditating and sometimes talking. He didn't quite hear what they talked about because most of the time, he read to Bastion about nature and animals, whatever he could find on the internet. He found that Bastion beeped happily when he read about nature and whenever he mentioned birds. Markus knew that the two others were listening when Genji started to attract sparrows to his balcony.

Markus came closer slowly, day by day, finally crossing over to the next balcony with Bastion trailing after him. "Hello sir, or should I say sirs." He smiled to the two.

Bastion beeped a greeting. Zenyatta beeped back.

"Hello" Genji says in a greeting "how are you?"

"I'm alright sir, thank you for askin me."

"You are very polite for a young man, I think others should learn from you." He says quietly.

"Why thank you kindly. Do you have a name you would like me to call you?" Markus steps forward a bit to see the sparrows near Genji.

"My name is Shimada Genji. It is nice to meet you." Genji motioned for him to have a seat closer to him,

"Thank you for letting me sit with you Mr.Genji. It's a mighty interesting last name you've got yourself." He looked at the sparrows, noticing how small they were.

"Ah, my family name is actually Shimada. In Japan, we have our family names placed before our given names." He spreads some more seed.

"Well that's mighty interesting and a lot more effective than these American names. My name's Alvaros by the way."

"Huh, you sound very much like your father. Only a bit younger."

By then it is hard to miss the pained look on his face as he draws back to Bastion. "Yeah...Only a bit though."

"I apologize, I did not realize that this was a sensitive subject." Genji resumed attracting the birds.

"Would your friend like me to call him by anything special?" Markus took a breath before returning to Genji's side, Bastion following close.

"Zenyatta is fine for him. He simply likes being called that, especially by those that he considers his pupils."

"Mr. Shimada, thank you letting me see your birds."

"Anytime, Alvaros. It is great to see you active."

From morning to evening Markus would hang out in the balcony, avoiding contact with the rest of the team unless it was to sneak food from the refrigerator

Later that week, he had met Tobjorn. It was a good meeting because for once, he saw someone who wasn't taller than him. He smiled a bit and waved before turning and running right into a wall. No, it wasn't a wall, it was Reinhardt.

"HELLO MY FRIEND!" he boomed in a friendly manner.

"Hello Mr.Reinhardt, how are you this fine day?"

"Very well! How are you?!"
He was too loud for Markus, he wanted to go back to Bastion, Genji, and Zenyatta, they only answered questions. They never asked anything.

"I'm doin' well Mr.Reinhardt. Thank you kindly." With that and a simple nod of his head he walked off out of the kitchen. Hesitating when he heard the two.

"He walks just like Jesse! Hah! Who would've thought that something like that could be genetic!"

"Hush now Reinhardt, the boy doesn't like it when you compare him to his father. Puts him on edge."

He pulled his windbreaker closer to himself as he carried the food outside.
