Her decision that day wasn't very smart.  Not like any other decision of her's wasn't.

Marinette was supposed to meet up with Alya at the library after school to work on an assignment, but when she got there, she had received a text from her saying that she had a family emergency and that she couldn't make it.

So she decided to check out the necessary books for their physics project and be on her way. That was, until she saw a design book on display right next to the exit.

Marinette figured it wouldn't hurt to quickly flip through it and be on her way, so she took it back to the table and read.

Time seemed to go faster than she kept track of because soon enough the librarian had to escort her out of the building because they were closing up for the night.

So that left Marinette walking in the dark streets of Paris carrying a heavy backpack with a high probability of being mugged.

"How much worse could it get?" Marinette mumbled, keeping her eye on the unclosed strap of her backpack, the physics books filled to the brim. Suddenly a drop of water fell on her nose, sliding its way down to her upper lip. She looked above and held out an open hand, feeling wet pellets of rain coat her palm slowly. Marinette rapidly wiped her hand on her shirt and ran as fast as she could in haste to get home, even though she knew she were nowhere near.

The rain began pouring, soaking every inch of her body as she shielded the books from the water bullets. She awkwardly continued her walk, gloomier than before.

Marinette suddenly felt the rain stop pelting her body and looked up to see a navy blue umbrella over her head.  There was Chat Noir, holding it for her as his hair dripped, now a dirty blonde color.

"Hi," he smiled and cocked his head.

"Hi," she replied and grinned at his kindness.  "Hey what about you?"

He waved his hand and shook his head.  "I'm fine, don't worry."

"You sure, Alley Cat?"

"Yep," he said, popping the p.

"Okay," Marinette didn't ask twice, and took a few of the books out of her bag to decrease the possibility of them all falling into a puddle.

"So, what are you doing out so late in the streets of Paris?" he said, starting up a conversation.

"Oh," Marinette pulled a few strands of hair out of her face and tucked them behind her ear.  "Well, my best friend Alya, who runs the Ladyblog, and I were gonna meet up at the library to work on a project, but she couldn't make it, so I checked out some books and right before I left, I got a little . . . distracted," she laughed nervously, not noticing the look of admiration the black cat gave her as she shared her story.  "And so I kinda lost track of time and didn't notice until I got kicked out of the library.  So here I am, in the rain with a heavy backpack and most likely will be mugged."

"Are you subtly asking for sympathy, Princess?" He chuckled, amused.  "Because if you wanted it, you could just ask."

"No, I wasn't," Marinette scoffed.  "I'm not the type of person who'd want sympathy, but it is appreciated."

"And I thought I knew you!"

"There's a lot you don't know about me!" She boasted, but immediately regretted it and feared the questions he'd ask.  But surprisingly, he didn't push it.

He nodded in understanding.  "Everyone does."

There was a moment of silence except for the rain pattering against the waterproof material of the umbrella and their soft footsteps on the wet sidewalk.

"You're smarter than I thought," she joked, pushing him to the side slightly with her body and giggled.

"And you're prettier than I remember," he replied, a lovesick expression lighting up his face.

They both stopped midstep, taking in what just happened.  They turned back to each other, shocked.

"Oh shit," Chat muttered and covered his mouth with his free clawed hand, a blush peeking from beneath his mask.  "Forget I said that-"

She caressed his face and pulled him down to her mouth, pressing a quick but sweet kiss to his lips.  When Marinette pulled away, she took the umbrella from his hand.

"Thanks," she gave him a cute smile and continued on her way home, leaving the dumbfound cat behind.
