Miraculous One-Shots | Miraculous Ladybug

This one-shot is based off a comic @taylordraws (on Tumblr) made :)  Just saying this isn't my idea, but I am changing things up a bit.

"It's getting cold out again, Plagg," Adrien said, rummaging through his oversized closet.  His black cat kwami floated next to him, watching his Miraculous holder search through his wardrobe while nibbling on a piece of cheddar.

"Yeah, and?" Plagg asked, spitting out a few bits of cheese in the process.

Adrien rolled his eyes and he pulled out something blue.  "That means I can wear the scarf Father got me for my birthday."

He nuzzled it up to his face and sighed.  "It's so warm," he mumbled and grabbed the end of the baby blue scarf, inspecting it with gratitude and admiraction.  A flash of gold caught him off guard.

Adrien looked back at the end of the scarf and creased his eyebrows.  "What's this-" he began, but stopped himself before sounding out the intricate threaded words he read.  "Marinette . . ."

"What?" Plagg butted in, suddenly seeming more interested.  "What is it?"

But Adrien didn't answer, he just dropped the soft cloth from his hand and turned away with creased eyebrows.

The Next Day . . .

Marinette was actually early to school for once, thanks to Tikki, who woke up sooner than usual that morning and helped make it benefit to Mari as well.

"I can't believe you got up at this time!" Alya said, impressed as she saw Mari rush up to her with a half an hour to spare.  "What was it? Coffee? Five-Hour Energy?"

Marinette's smile vanished and it was replaced with a anxious expression.  "Well, my, uh, cat, yeah, my cat woke me up this morning and, uh . . ." she took a split-second to think, then she put up her hand and clawed at the air.  "My cat scratched my face.  And, so . . . Yeah.

Alya smirked.  "Mari, I never knew you had a cat?" She leaned in tauntingly, sarcasm in her voice.  "What's it's name?"

Marinette blurted out the first name that came to mind.  "Chat Noir!" she yelled.

Alya burst out with laughter and slapped her knee.  "Mari, I know you would never name your cat Chat Noir even if you had one!  And anyway, where are the 'scratches'," she air-quoted.  "That 'Chat Noir' left on your face?  Girl, you have to come up with better excuses! Now tell me--how did you wake up so early?

Marinette opened her mouth to speak, but Alya quickly interjected.

"And no lying now!" She wagged a finger in front of her face.  The ebony-haired girl gulped, but before she could answer, a comfortably familiar voice called out her name.  She whipped her head towards the noise.

"Marinette!" the beautiful blonde said, waving a hand at her.  "Can I talk to you for a sec?"

Marinette stood there, starstrucked, but was brought out of her trance as her best friend whispered in her ear, "We'll continue this later," and ran off with a smug smile.

"No, Alya!" Marinette whisper yelled, reaching out to grab her arm, but her friend fled too quickly and she missed it by a centimeter.  She quickly turned back to Adrien who had a friendly smile with a hint of confusion.  A blush crept up on her face.

Oh god, this is going to be a long conversation, she thought.

Adrien saw her turn back to him with a red face.  Was it something he said . . .

"Sure," Marinette finally said.  "W-what did you want to talk about?"

"Well, I just wanted to thank you for the scarf," he said, pointing to the accessory wrapped around his neck.

"W-what?" She looked startled.  "How did you find out?"

"Your name was stitched on the end," Adrien pointed out, showing her her signature in gold.

"Oh . . . R-right, I forgot about that," Marinette nodded.

"Why didn't you tell me?"

Marinette's rosy face turned even rosier.  "Well, you looked so happy when you thought it was from your dad," she managed to say without stuttering as she usually did.  "I didn't want to take it away."

And that was the day Adrien really started to notice Marinette.
