Once we pulled up to the mall the question "Why won't you move out" still floated around the back of my head. I shook it off and began to look forward to a wonderful day of work.
"Hey Jilly! Hey Sol!" one of my co-workers yelled from the right side of the store.
"Hey Sam" I said back and Sol did a slight wave. She wasn't too fond of Samantha, but Sol is always particular with who she talks to in general and Sam was not one of her choices.
I put my bag in the back room and touched up my lip balm before walking out to the floor.
"Hello, Welcome to Sephora. Is everything going well for you?" I said enthusiastically to a customer that walked in with her daughter.
"I need a bit of help. We've been to MAC upstairs and my daughter got her make up done and --" the mother looked at her daughter that had a light foundation tone against her caramel skin. The girl had to be about 16, she looked so disappointed.
"They put the wrong foundation on me. I look like I'm about to buried." She said looking at me and patting her cheeks with her fingers. I nodded.
"They don't have many black women working up there anymore as you can see. I'll help you." I said back sincerely. I sat her down at the vanity and handed her some make up wipes so she can wipe her face clean. I grabbed the skin scanner we had in store and put it against her cheek, neck and forehead.
"Okay, so see on the screen, it matches your skin to the perfect foundation." I explained. "Follow me and we can find out how you want the foundation to look." I said setting the scanner down and walking towards the foundations for darker skin.
"So do you want to have a matte finish or a dewy finish?" I asked looking at her. She picked up the Too Faced foundation that just recently came out with darker tones. I nodded. "This is a matte-ish finish but it'll feel so light weight on your skin." I said looking for the color suggested and picking it up.
"While we are out on the floor, any particular palettes or lipsticks you want me to use?" I said walking to the back to grab my belt with my makeup brushes. "I want my face to be BEAT to the Gods." She said snapping her fingers. I laughed and nodded. "I gotchu, sis. You can go sit down and I'll get all the things I need."
☼☼☼☼
"Oh my gosh. I don't even look like myself. In a good way!" The girl said. I smiled to myself. The girl hopped up and hugged me. "You are so good. I want to be able to do as good as you did because...girl." She looked at herself in the mirror and posed a bit.
I smiled wide at my work of art. "Free of charge." I said looking at the mother. The mother clutched her chest and sighed out of happiness. "Thank you so much, Jill" She said remembering when we were talking while I was doing her daughter's, Brieon, makeup.
"So what's the occasion?" I ask while Brieon was getting her stuff together. "Oh, Chance the Rapper, my husband, is in town. Me and my Bestfriend are going to see him." She said excitedly.
"I like Chance, too. He's very creative." I said walking her to the entrance of Sephora. "Have fun and stay safe." I said sincerely. Brieon hugged me and sighed. "You saved my face. I owe you all the thank you's in the world." I laughed and gave her mom my card with my number for when she wants to make an appointment again.
"Thanks again!" The mom said walking out. I walked back to the vanity and began to clean up. "Look at you and your good deed of the day." Sol said patting my butt.
"Ugh, you're so gay." I said swatting her hand away.
"Only for you, boo. Only for you." she said before winking and me and helping me clean up.
"So did you consider moving in with me?" Sol said looking at me. I shrugged, the same thing I did when she asked the first time.
"Come onnnn. We could have endless sleepovers, have our lil boos over without worrying about parents bugging us. The good stuff." She said trying to convince me. I wasn't having it. I'm not ready to move out, yet.
"Give me a month, Solana." I said looking at her. She nodded and finished picking the brushes up. "Imma go put these in that new brush cleaning robot thing we just got in stock. We are gon go grab lunch." and just like that she went to the back of the store and did what she said.
I walked to the counter and took my tool belt off and set it in a drawer. "Benny, you want something to eat? Me and Sol are about to go to the food court."
He shook his head and asked for a caramel frappe from Starbucks and slid me a five dollar bill. I nodded and started walking out the entrance behind a very eager and hungry Solana.
☼☼☼☼
"Okay Jill, come over tonight. We are going out." Solana said giving the plan for our wonderful Friday night.
"Alright, you go shopping recently?" I asked.
"Yea, I just got like 3 dresses in the mail from Fashion Nova yesterday."
"Ayy I'm shopping in your closet for a fit tonight." I said slightly twerking with my tongue out.
"AYY JILL THE BIG BOOTY BIHH!" Sol said hyping me up and slapping my butt as I danced.
We busted out laughing and began to walk back to the store. Solana slowed down looking at something...or someone. "Jill, look at the piece of heaven over there, and he has a friend." I looked over and saw two very attractive men.
We walked over to them and Solana was the first to say something.
" You guys are too fine to be sitting by yourselves. What's the word?" She said with a snug smile on her face.
"Is that so?" The first one with the golden skin said while flashing his perfect set of pearlies.
"Yea, where ya girlfriends?" She said jumping right to the point.
"We don't have girlfriends, but y'all could be possible candidates." The other one with the deep brown skin said.
"I have a sweet tooth, I call the chocolate one." I whispered hushly into Sol's ear.
"So what are you beautiful women doing at the mall without someone balling out on you?" The brown skinned man said looking at me while licking his lips a bit.
I blushed. I'm yellow as hell and I blushed.
"We work at Sephora. We are licensed make up artists." I said trying to cover the fact that I am probably pink as ever.
"Oh that's whats up. We are rappers." He said pointing between himself and his friend.
Solana, being the rude ass she is, chuckled a bit.
"Sol!" I said shoving her a bit and looked back at the men. "That's cool, what are your names?" I asked politely.
"I'm Gin and he's Juice."
"Oh hell no!" I heard Sol saying before busting out into a loud laugh. I glanced at her trying to keep a straight face. I cracked. Solana's laugh is so contagious.
"I'm sorry, we have to go clock back into our REAL jobs, Gin and Juice." Solana said before straightening up a bit and doing a bounce dance that Snoop Dogg did in 'Drop It Like Its Hot'.
I wiped my eyes a bit before exhaling and walking next to Sol back to the store.
"Did you hear that foolery? Gin and Juice. Imma go back and fight them." she said shaking her head.
I couldn't help but start to laugh again. Always have to have the one best friend that has a wild personality that counteracts with yours. Solana is that best friend.
