Father's Day 2020
A tiny four-year old, clad in dark blue leggings, mismatched bee socks, red plaid, and an impossibly small leather jacket, came running into the living room, pigtails bouncing wonkily. She was closely followed by Dean, who was carrying a small, pink rucksack and an expression that said 'Dear God, that child shouldn't have so much energy after a day at school'.
Cas greeted them both with a smile and a slice of pecan pie.
"My favourite!" The two intrepid explorers exclaimed in unison, and Castiel's grin widened exponentially.
"Happy Father's Day, sweetie." He kissed Dean on the cheek and nuzzled slightly into the scruff that his husband was experimenting with. Then he kissed his daughter on the nose and ruffled her very new, very short fringe. "Where did this come from, Lottie-bug?" He asked kindly, gesturing to the spiky explosion of golden-brown on her forehead.
"I was being a hairdresser, Daddy."
"Well, of course. How did I miss that?" Cas replied, without a hint of sarcasm.
"Do you think Uncle Sammy will let me practice on his hair? It's so soft, and long."
"I'm sure he will, darling." Dean cut in with a mischievous grin. "He couldn't say no to you."
"Awesome!" She cried. "Hey, Dada? Could I have my backpack please?"
"Course, Charlie. Good manners."
She smiled proudly and rifled through her school bag, triumphantly pulling out a very sparkly card. When she saw that her fathers were still stood up, she pointed expectantly at the sofa, then at a raised eyebrow from Cas, amended it with a small 'Please'.
They sat down, after Castiel had brought the pie and strawberry milk in from the kitchen, and the two men examined the sticky card. Once you could see past the blobs of glitter and pom-poms, it was obviously a Father's Day card. There was even a wobbly message inside; 'I love you Dada and Daddy'.
"Thank you, sweetheart. It's beautiful." Charlie was then enveloped by both of her dads and they snuggled together on that old red sofa, eating pie and slurping pink milk before falling asleep as per tradition. Charlotte exhausted from her day at school, Cas weary from a day of chores and bee-keeping, and Dean simply tired from standing on his old, aching bow-legs all day.
