When we break away it's really reluctant. Will looks down at me and whispers, " Sorry."
"Don't be," His eyes are extremely ice blue but have a warmth when he looks down at me.
"Hey!" A plump man in a NYPD uniform comes jogging down the alley. I've learned from years of experience to play innocent.
"Can I help you officer?" I say sweetly staying in the shadows. I can't be recognized but I also can't look suspicious and flee.
"Yes, you can. Can I ask you what you are doing hanging around in this alley?"
"We were just heading home actually," Will says stepping up.
"Wait a second," The cop does a double-take over me and racks his brain for something. Only he doesn't know I know what. A four letter word starting with S comes to mind when my name surfaces in his thoughts. "Can I see your ID?" He asks me.
"Oh, I'm sorry I left it at home. Brittany Hersh," I say reaching out.
"Uh huh," he says uncertainly, "I know who you are."
"Come on Britt," Will puts his arm around me stepping in front of the officer.
"Stop! I'm sorry but we have to take you in for questioning!" He commands grabbing my wrist.
"Don't touch her!" Will exclaims. I wrangle my wrist away from the officer and his fist catches my jaw. Shock flies up my back and I grab my cheek.
"Kemp!" Will reaches for me and the cop catches Will in the face also. Will drops the cop with one swift punch and turns his attention to me. My mind is a little fuzzy but I try to focus on his face. He's saying something but I can't quite hear him.
"Kemp! Hey can you hear me?" I finally hear him clearly and my eyes snap open. I hadn't even realized I was drifting off. I grab Will's elbow and stand up slowly.
"What?" I spit out and stumble around. Will steadies me and I start leading the way to my apartment.

"Will," I mumble as we wait in the elevator, "You can't talk to me anymore. You'll just get caught."
"I'm not doing that, we're both on the run, we are in this together."
"Even though I told you no? Your coming with me?"
"Even if you told me not to." He says softly. I look up at this man that I met THIS morning. This morning! And he is already wanting to travel the world with me? I can't do that to him its no fair.
"You saw how easy I was recognized! I can't do that to you!"
"And I also saw how vulnerable you are by yourself!" He looks genuinely concerned and I freeze up. And it hits me, this guy I know barely anything about cares about me more than anybody in my life EVER has. My parents gave me up when they found out the truth for crying-out-loud! None of my family wanted anything to do with me and I never had any true friends. The boys couldn't take me seriously and the girls were all jealous that the boys gave me the time of day! This touches me to an extreme level and I take Wills hand.
"I know I just met you but, I can say, Kemp I care about you and what happens to you."
"Thank you, no one has ever, ya know, wanted to have anything to do with me."
Will eyes lock onto mine and he says softly, "That's gonna' change."
