Chapter 2: Living Nightmare
Step. Step. Step.
Breath in, breath out.
Step. Step. Step.
Breath in, breath out.
This went on for several moments till I heard my Mom’s car drive away. Relief flooded through me as the sound of her tires faded away into the distance. Looking over my shoulder I saw that the space, where my Mom had parked, was, now, definitely empty. I finally relaxed.
Well tried to, but then I suddenly remembered where I was and what I was about to do. I felt every muscle in my body tense with fear at the thought of walking into the school that stood so innocently in front of me.
It just looked like any other high school from the outside, with the big glass doors which were under the cover of the concrete awning. The awning’s supports met the ground in front of the stairs, that lead up to the glass doors which I was dreading entering. The rest of the building was a mass of bricks and glass except for the schools logo which was hung on the left side of the building. Who would have thought a building could cause someone so much fear?
Not me, but sadly it did.
With that thought in mind I pulled my bag strap further up over my shoulder - I nervous gesture to stall going into the school. Taking a deep breath I began my journey into a living nightmare, by walking up to the doors of the school and reaching for the handle.
Pulling the door towards me I heard my shallow breaths echoing in my ears. Tentatively, I took a step into my new school and began to take in my surroundings.
It was everything I feared. The hallway was filled with kids, who all turned to look at me as I let the door close behind me. I stood stock still unsure of what to do or say to draw the attention away from myself.
Luckily, the sound of the school bell was enough to free me from people’s stares long enough to put my head down and scurry down the hallway.
Keep your head down.
Keep your head down.
I chanted to myself, I a hope that I would not be noticed as I made my way to the office. Wait! I don’t know where the office is-
Oomph...
Suddenly, my body was forced backwards by an unseen force. I tried to step back to regain my balance but my foot slipped and the next thing I knew I was in a heap on the school’s vinyl floor.
“God, sorry I didn’t see you. Are you ok?” A masculine voice said.
I looked up, and as I did I was met by a set of crystal clear blue eyes, which were so blue I could almost see myself in them. They stared down at me with concern.
A hand appeared in front of my face as he reached down to try and help me up. I ducked away from the offering when his hand neared my face. I scrabbled backwards trying to escape him as I unsteadily stood up. I was then at the same level as him - well kind of, he was at least a foot taller than me.
“So, are you ok?” He repeated.
I nodded as I stared bewilderedly at him. He had a neutral complexion which was framed by a mass of dark blonde messy curls. He had dark pinks lips that were pulled up into a smirk as he stared back at me.
Realising I was stood staring I pulled my head down so fast I felt muscles in the back of my neck stretch to fulfil the action. Hearing a snigger from the guy in front of me I began to blush.
“So I’m guessing you are a newbie?”
I nodded still keeping my head down while trying to hide my scar from the boy who just crashed into me, or who I just crashed into.
