Once my mom starts driving I take the initiative to turn on the radio to my favorite station, bright radio. It's this amazing local station that only plays indie rock music and they feature local bands. I enjoy about 2 songs before my mom decided to switch it because of the F word.
That's how it normally goes. Now she has it switched to some top 40 station. She loves top 40. I don't understand how I'm her son sometimes. She also listens to a lot of 80s Rock and pop and I'm okay with that. But top 40, I don't understand my generation for liking that Shit.
I was about to put in my headphones when I was interrupted by my mom.
"So when are you going to go get a job Dylan?"
Oh shit. I haven't even thought about work yet.
You see the summer started a couple days ago and I was just planning on sleeping in and listening to my music. Maybe join a band, I play guitar. I was even thinking about maybe writing a couple songs.
"Do I have to get a job?"
I asked this hoping she would say no.
"I think you would really enjoy a job Dylan. Give you an opportunity to get out of the house and Maybe meet some new people."
"Where would I even work?"
I don't remember seeing any businesses hiring. Then yet again I haven't been looking.
"Maybe McDonald's? Aren't they always hiring? We can swing by there after we get groceries so you can get an application, okay."
"Okay."
I guess I'm applying for a job.
We got too the grocery store and it didn't take long to get all the groceries. Just as my mom said she took me straight too McDonald's right after. It was the McDonald's in Walmart.
My mom decided to wait outside in the car so I could make my own impression. I walked inside and standing at the counter was a girl. She looked about 15 and a half or 16 and she had dark brown hair and pale skin. Her name tag said, Kimberly.
I walked up to the counter and she said the classic,
"Hi welcome to McDonalds what can I get for you?"
I froze for a second. I realized I did not have a plan. I sorta just stood staring at her, not the menu for about a min and then she asked if I was okay. I guess I was nervous because when I meant to ask for an application smoothly, you know my cool voice. My voice cracked while I was asking.
"Can I have an application?"
It cracked when I said, I. She giggled.
"Sure. I'm Kim, dude it would be so cool if you get this job. Most of the people here are old an lame and I could use another person my age to mess around with here."
She said while handing me an application. I really want to get this job now.
"Haha yeah that would be awesome."
I said with no voice cracks.
"Don't worry they hire pretty much everyone.
"Great! Well I'll hope to see you later Kim."
"You too— what's your name?"
She asked. Damnit how stupid am I, I didn't even tell her my name yet.
"Dylan."
"Okay! I hope to see you too, Dylan"
She said that with a smile.
I walked out the door with a smile and an application now pumped to get a job. Once I got in the car my mom looked at me scanning my face and then said something.
"You look way happier now walking out before you walked in. What did you do? Did you meet someone?"
"Nothing. Just it looks fun"
I said not mentioning Kim.
" Okay. Well let's get going. We can take your application back Tomorrow."
I didn't say anything back. I just looked out the window grinning hoping I'll get the job.
