Harper Lee Taylor lives a normal life. She's 12 years old, athletic, spunky, and fun. She's always optimistic but her whole world gets flipped upside down when her parents suddenly pass away in an "accident". She if forced to go live with her not so wonderful aunt and uncle.

Harper's POV
••••••••••••••••••
While I lay in my uncomfortable bed I think about my situation.
I've been staying with my horrible aunt and uncle for a week now. I miss my parents like crazy. I wish they were still here. They never beat or talked to me like my aunt and uncle do. My parents passed away in an "accident", and that left me all alone. I just wish my aunt and uncle realized that they don't help at all with my anxiety, depression, or life in general. The only thing that makes me happy is, well Adele. It's hard to describe but her voice calms me down when I have anxiety. I'm brought out of my thoughts by my alarm.
It's time to start another day. Just as normal it's miserable. I hear my aunt yelling my name from downstairs so I hurry up.
I brush my teeth and pull my long brown hair into a pony tail. I run down the stairs to the kitchen only to see my aunt angry.
"Good morning, Aunt Nora."
Aunt Nora replied, "I honestly can't believe your little ass. You need to wake up earlier. Anyway eat this."
I sat down at the table. She threw a plate with a piece of burnt toast in front of me. I didn't complain because I knew that was all I would get.
Just as I was halfway finished my Uncle Gary walked in. Obviously my day wouldn't be complete if he wasn't angry at me also.
He said, "Oh look, the little spoiled brat is still here."
"I have no where else to go," I mumbled the second part under my breath, "trust me I wouldn't be here."
Aunt Nora yelled, "What was that?"
"Oh I was just talking about how great breakfast was. Well I'm going to go up to my room. Thank you for breakfast!"
I flashed them both a fake smile then ran upstairs. Once I was in my room I put on my clothes and shoes. After my outfit was complete I checked my image out in the mirror. I'm wearing a baggy, navy t-shirt, white Nike shorts, and Nike tennis shoes. I may look like I have a perfect life but honestly I'm way to skinny, stressed, and occasionally have anxiety attacks about the simplest things. Suddenly the bruises on my leg and arms caught my attention. No, they aren't noticeable to anyone who just glances at me, but I see them every time. Every time I look in the mirror. They remind me of the terrible things my aunt and uncle have done. My bruises just added to my imperfect life. Pushing all those thoughts out of my head I grabbed my iPhone and hopped down the stairs one by one.
Just as I had quietly reached the door with out being noticed, I heard Aunt Nora yell my name.
"I'm coming."
I ran to the living room where they were both sitting. I automatically wanted to burst into tears, but I held it together.
She asked, "What were you trying to do you?"
"I was just going to go on a walk."
Uncle Gary chimed in, "Oh really? And Nora did you give this little sorry ass bitch permission to go out?"
Aunt Nora responded, "I sure didn't. You know you have to ask US for permission now. It's not like it used to be when your parents were around."
I could feel the tears forming in my eyes and an anxiety attack coming on. They do these sort of things to get to me.
"May I please go out on a walk Aunt Nora and Uncle Gary?"
Uncle Gary responded, "Come here you idiot."
He was sitting in a recliner so I walked over. I slightly leaned down to be more eye level with him. Before I knew it I felt his hand smack my face followed with laughter. My cheek stung. Instead of crying I stayed strong.
Aunt Nora said, "Go now. I'm tired of seeing your ugly ass face. Get out of here."
Choking back tears I said, "Thanks."
I ran out of the house making my way down the sidewalk. I finally let the tears fall. Knowing no one would care I cried as much as I wanted to. My face throbbed from the impact of Uncle Gary's hand.
I normally take this walk everyday, but this time I decided to walk extra slow. If I walked slower it would take more time to get home. I don't want to be at home anymore. I want a way out, but I'm stuck. Just as I started the trail that goes through the park I saw a little boy. He was was crying and honestly looked lost.
