Cold bit your flesh harshly as you stepped into the snowy biome. After mere seconds you shuddered, arms encompassing you to try to retain body heat. You looked down at Frisk to find him in the same state, shivering. You would have turned back to grab sweaters from Tori, but the door was already closed.

You pulled Frisk closer to you and walked forward along the treeless path. This had to lead to a town eventually, right? Right? Keeping your hopes high, you trudged on. It didn't take long to find the bridge. At least, it looked like a bridge. Wide bars spanned over a chasm that spiraled downward, but the gaps in between could fit several people at a time. It was probably just weird design.

As you approached the 'gate,' your hairs began to stand on end. It felt like eyes were on you. You put a hand on Frisk's shoulder and stopped, turning slowly. "Are you getting that eerie feeling too?" You asked Frisk.

"It's probably just the cold. Let's keep going before I freeze to death." Frisk whined.

You rolled your eyes and shrugged off your suspicion. A few more steps and you were certain of crunch of snow behind you. Whipping around and grinning cockily, you yelled "Ah ha!"

Frisk jumped at your outburst and turned to face the same as you. He was about to snap at you until his eyes also met with the sillouhette of your mystery follower. Slowly, he stepped into the light, revealing his features.

Your brow furrowed as you took in his look. He wore a blue hoodie, pulled up around his face. His legs were covered by grey sweats and his feet by sneakers. His hands were covered by fingerless gloves, which gave you your first hint. Instead of finding flesh at his fingertips, you found ivory bone replacing his fingers. A skeleton maybe?

"Don't you know how to greet a new friend? Shake my hand." He requested nonchalantly.

Without hesitation Frisk took his had and shook it happily. A large, gassy sound filled the air and your cheeks reddened. It didn't take long for the three of you to burst out laughing.

"Hahaha! I can't believe you fell for that Frisk!" You snorted.

"Neither can I! Usually I get caught!"

The newcomer removed his hood, revealing his skull as he laughed. You were correct in assuming him to be a skeleton. However, he didn't exactly seem like a traditional skeleton that resides beneath your flesh. As you examined him, you saw how the magic of monsters animated his features. Even his mouth seemed to morph. His face was mostly taken by a wide grin, but was otherwise bare except for his two hallow black eyes. White pinpricks acted as his pupils and you struggled to withhold your awe.

He shoved his hand in his pocket and relaxed his posture. "Anyway, the name's Sans. Sans the Skeleton. You?"

Both your and Frisk's expressions lit up. "You're Sans?!" You asked excitedly.

"The one and only..." He chimed. "Should I know you?" He asked.

You snickered. "Barely. My name is (Y/N). We talked through the door."

His eyes widened slightly with his grin. "Oh! So you're Little Miss Late Night." He mused.

His gaze shifted and he looked at Frisk. "And his must be your adoptive little brother, Frisk, right?"

"Do you see any other small children around here?" You teased.

Frisk huffed. "I'm not that short."

"But you're shorter than me!"

Sans chuckled. "Yep. You're definitely siblings."

You smiled. "I wish Toriel could meet you. I would introduce her but-"

"The door can't be pulled open from this side, I know."

You snickered. "I guess you would. You do live down here after all."

"Meh, can't be as nice as where you live." He said, gesturing upward.

"Well, actually-"

"SSSSAAAAANNNNNNSSSSS! WHERE ARE YOU, YOU LAZY BONES?!"

Sans looked over your shoulder and his eyes widened a bit. He pushed both you and Frisk past the wide gate and pointed at a small wooden station. "Hide there, you can't let my bro see you. He's kinda a human hunting fanatic."

Your face fell and you nodded. "Yeah, I choose life."

Pushing Frisk, you both crouched behind the wooden counter and peered over the edge to watch the scene. Sans turned just as another monster came into view.

"Hey Papyrus! Where've ya been? I was getting kinda bonely."

The other monster groaned and you examined him more closely. He was much taller than his brother, towering over your height as well. He wore a loose shirt that clasped down at the wrist with band. The collar was pressed neatly but the top few buttons were undone, showing his ribcage through the top. The bottom of his shirt was tucked beneath black pants. On his feet he wore shiny black shoes and a rose bloomed from his breast pocket to polish the look. Lucky for you, growing up you knew that many people wore only if their mastery was the Tango.

Your curious eyes observed as he approached Sans. "SANS! WHY HAVE YOU NOT RECALIBRATED YOUR PUZZLES?!" He yelled.

You winced away from the sudden volume, but kept your eyes upwards. "Sorry Paps, I got sidetracked."

"SAAAAAAANNNNNSSSS! HOW WILL WE EVER CATCH A HUMAN IF YOU KEEP SLACKING OFF?!"

"Dunno bro, maybe I should put more backbone into my work."

The taller skeleton groaned. "WILL YOU STOP IT WITH THESE UNFUNNY AND RATHER USELESS PUNS?!"

"Sorry Paps, I really thought they'd tickle your funny bone."

"GGGAAAAHHHHH!!!!! SSSAAAAANNNNNSSSS!"

Sans laughed quietly, his posture relaxed as his brother went into a frenzy. "SANS! IF YOU DON'T RECALIBRATE YOUR PUZZLES A HUMAN COULD SLIP RIGHT THROUGH OUR HANDS!" He cried.

"Don't worry Paps. I've been working myself to the bone making sure that won't happen."

Roaring in disbelief, Paps stormed away. As soon as he was far enough away, you fell on your side laughing. "Smooth puns Sans! They were really rib ticklers."

He chuckled. "Yeah, I thought they were pretty humerus."

Frisk giggled while you continued with your roar of laughter. Standing, you brushed the snow off your clothing and approached your hooded, new friend. "So I'm guessing we'll have to avoid your brother?" You inquired.

He glanced in the direction his brother left and grinned. "Actually, I was thinking you let him see you. He's never seen a human before and it's kinda dampened his mood. Maybe just a few puzzles, to make him happy ya know."

You sent a nervous glance in his direction. "Is it really all that safe?

Sans waved his hand submissively with an easy smile. "His puzzles are simple, mostly. If you really need help I'll be there. Trust me, it'll be like a walk in the park."

You glanced at Frisk and he gave you two thumbs up. Smiling, you turned back to Sans and nodded. "Yeah, why not? Frisk seems okay with it, so I am too."

"Great! Just keep on down the path and I'll meet you at the first puzzle."

He turned in the opposite direction and began to walk. Reaching out, you grabbed his arm and he looked back at you. "Where are you going?" You asked. "Aren't the paths that way?"

He smiled slyly and winked at you as you dropped your hand. "Shortcut?"

You blinked and he was gone. Your brow furrowed as your eyes scanned your surrounding. Even his footprints disappeared from sight. Frisk and you both made noises of confusion as you tried to find him. Shrugging, you turned to Frisk and scratched your head absent-mindedly. "I guess this is the part where we go do puzzles.." You guessed.

Frisk smiled and grabbed your hand. Returning his grin, you snickered. "Okay then! I guess it's time to go on! Too puzzles!" You whooped.

"To Puzzles!" Frisk parroted.
