"Psshh, Evelyn, wake up," Jeff whispers softly in my ear. I groan in response, pulling myself closer to him. Our bodies are already pressed against each other, as we spent most nights(on the night's Jeff is home) cuddling together now. Weird to think that half a year ago we slept with the largest gap possible between us every night.

"Guess what today is~" He sings in my ear, still speaking softly.

"Wake Evelyn up in the middle of the night day?" I question jokingly. "What time is it anyway?"

"Just after midnight, and wrong. It is officially you're birthday!" Jeff cheers.

"It'll still be my birthday after the sun rises, right now it's bed time, owl eyes," I groan and bury my face in Jeff's chest. He chuckles.

"I know," He says, "But there's something I wanted to show you, and it's only visible at night."

"But sleep!" I whine.

Jeff chuckles and pulls himself away from me. I don't protest, but losing the heat from his body makes me shiver. He leans over, slides his arms under me, and scoops me up. I groan. Jeff tosses me over his shoulder and carries me off. My hip bones uncomfortably press against the top of his shoulder. I rub my eyes before forcing them open. A tired sigh escapes my lips.

Jeff takes me all the way downstairs and out the back door. He gently sets me on my feet. I stare at him, he stares at the sky. I could barely see him in the darkness, the only source of light being that pouring out from the house.

"Okay, why am I out here?" I ask. I rub my arms, trying to warm myself up.

"Just look," Jeff says, pointing to the sky.

My mouth falls open as I look above. Random lights shine within the darkness of the sky, like stars but much more colorful. Every shade of every color you could think of scattered across the sky. It resembles christmas light shining on a house.

"Woah," I gasp. "What is that?"

"Well, it's a long story actually. You sure you want me to explain it all, sleepy head?" Jeff questions, smirking at me.

"Just tell me asshole," I groan. Jeff chuckles, knowing my harsh attitude was only a joke.

"Alright, alright," Jeff says, "So, in the universe you and I were born in, the overworld, the sky is filled with stars and other plants and such. This world, the underworld, isn't part of an actual universe. We're stuck in between universes, which is why we our connected to your world. Because we are in between universes, our world is in a weird place. That weird place is were all the portals to other universes are. Each one of those colors is a portal to a new universe."

"Really? How do you know this?" I ask him.

"A little over 19 years ago, an odd girl came by in the middle of the night. She wore this odd mask and had colorful hair. She walked into the house like she owned the place, and introduced herself to Slender," Jeff explains. "She was.. strange. She said she was usually called Unknown or Story Teller, but that she didn't have a real name. She pointed to the sky and said she came from one of the portals. Slender didn't understand, so she explained what the colors were. I had been listening in, many others were too. We still don't know what to think of her. We haven't seen her since, but she said she'd be around for a while. She mentioned some kind of work that she was going to be doing here, and said that we 'shouldn't be afraid of change."

"That's.. weird. If she came from one of those portals, how would she get here? How would she know to come here?" I question.

Jeff shrugs and says, "None of us are really sure. Slender's looked into a few theories, but nothing really came from it. Slender did notice something odd. Just after she visited, you were born."

"So?"

"He thinks she had something to do with you being who you are."

I didn't exactly know how to respond to this. Some odd girl from the sky could be the reason I'm such a freak? How would anyone know how to respond to that. My whole life, my odd abilities, my immorality could all be because of some strange girl. Jeff gazes at me in the darkness, I look to him.

"I wish I could thank her," I tell him.

"Why?" He asks.

"Because," I reply, "If I wasn't like this, I would've never been able to know you."

Jeff smiles and says, "C'mon Eve, I think it's bed time."

Jeff grabs my hand, intertwining our fingers. Together we walk back inside and to the warmth of our bed.
