His hands are warm and rough against mine.
"Would you like to..uhm...come in?" I ask, unsure of how to talk to him. He steps in as I close the door behind him.
"That's a nice piano," he says, gesturing to the black grand piano on the far side of the room.
"Oh, thanks. Do you play?" I ask, sitting down on the couch next to him.
"Nah, but I like listening to them,"he says, smiling at me.
"Kenzie, who was at he door?" questions my mother as she comes around the corner. "Oh, hello!" She says cheerfully and a bit caught off guard.
"Mom, this is Austin, the new neighbor."
"Very nice to meet you," he says, getting up to shake my mothers hand.
"Likewise," she says with a smile. "Hey Kenzie, have ya' checked the time lately?" she snickers over to me.
"Oh my God! I gotta go!" I grab my bag and sprint for the door. "Nice meeting you, Austin!" I say as I pop my head back in the door.
Boys are nice, but the one thing on my mind now was school. Not only finals, but the people there...
I arrive at 8:05, just ten minutes before school starts. I race into the school, pushing past everyone.
What you need to understand is I go to a school of two thousand people. The more students the
bigger the school and the more plugged up the halls will be.
I slide into my seat just as the bell rings. "Good morning. I'm sure you all are excited to take a chemistry final today, aren't you," assumes Mr. Jones in a sarcastic tone. The whole class groans.
"How 'bout this Mr. J. We don't take the final and you let us have an early summer!" says Jared, otherwise known as the class clown.
"Jared, as much as I would love an early summer as well, I'd get fired," says Mr. Jones, teasing him. "Alright, take out your pencils. Your test is on your desk. No cheating, because if you do, my foot will go somewhere where the sun don't shine!" threatens Mr. Jones. The class laughs, but only
for a brief moment, then hell begins.
As I scribble in my last bubble and sign my name to the top, a sense of relief comes over me. I lay my test face down on my desk and head for the door. Just as I open the door, Mr. Jones stops me.
"Way to sneak in at the last minute Quick," he whispers to me. I hate when he calls me by my last name.
"Jones, isn't that what I'm good at?" I say, bumping him with my elbow.
"Touché my friend. Get out of here and have a great summer," he says, waving me off. I burst through the door only to hear the song from school house rock being played over the intercom. My
school has the best sense of humor. I text my best friend Kaitlyn to let her know I'm done. Kaitlyn
has been my best friend since I moved to Miami two year ago.
Kaitlyn replies back with, "Meet you in the commons!!! :) XOXO".
I begin walking towards the commons when I hear a loud shrill behind me.
