"What's that?" I ask. Ethan stopped pacing and looked at me.

"What's what?" He looked around.

"The door behind you come here look." I motioned for him to come sit with me to see. He knelt down beside me and looked.

"What the?" he jumped up and rushed over to the door looking through the crack. Sam and Rupert get up and go over to see as well while Caleb pulled me to my feet.

Can we open it?" I asked.

"No idea." Ethan answered, "Caleb give me a hand." together they dug their fingers into the side of the door and pulled. Slowly the door creaked forward till they could grab the other side and pull it open properly. Light flooded the hallway bleeding us and waking Echo. As my eyes slowly began to adjust I could see something I had never seen and never thought I would see. A landscape stretched out before me. It looked like a crumbled city, it stretched out for as far as I could see. Everything was in shambles, it was rubble , nothing stood taller than a few stories tall. The sun was coming up from behind the hills and casting a strange red light on the ruined city making it look like it was bathed in blood. It was both beautiful and sad.

"Wow." Sam was breathless, everyone stared out of the door in silence just taking in the view.

"What's happening." Echo called "What is it?"

"It's a city." Caleb's voice was filled with awe.

"It's beautiful." We watched as the sun climbed over the hill and hung, a big red ball of angry fire in the blue sky.

"What does this mean?" I asked.

"I don't know Ethan's eyes are wide, living as long as he had and never seeing actual daylight.

"Let's close the door Rupert says it's making him queasy." Sam took a step away from the door frame.

"Okay." Ethan tore his eyes away and pushed the door till it is almost closed. We sat back down.

"Why would that be open?" Sam stressed slumping down on the wall.

"Not sure, maybe somebody broke in." Echo offered faintly

"Why would they do that?" Ethan Shut down.

"How would anyone do that?" Caleb said

"We don't even know if people are out there."

"There was a handle on the outside of the door so it could be opened."

"SO you think someone just broke in."

"I highly dought that."

"Maybe it was accidentally left open when the base was being built."

"Seems unlikely but I guess it is possible."

I sat down next to Rupert while the others came up with ideas about why the door was open and why it was there, each idea more crazy and unlikely than the last. I was just starting to doze off on Rupert's shoulder when I heard something.

"Did you hear that." I jumped up stopping their conversation short. Everyone was looking at me and listening.

"Hear what?" Caleb whispered.

"Shh." I hissed tilting my head a bit. Then I heard it again, a soft clang noise followed by a thud, then another and another and another, some far away some close by. "We gotta move." I yelped my suspicion growing "Come on move get Echo up. Come on. Let's go." a bang came from the closest room on our left and everyone else clicked in.
