Gundam thought "oh hey it'd be hella cool to have two different eye colors" while Celes thought "I'd rather have one."
Gundam got the idea when Celestia started wearing a red contact on one of her eyes, because it is actually lighter than the other. ((omg that sounds mary sueish but shhh))
