Payden's POV

The yells travel upstairs into my room. They are the reason I can't drift off to sleep. The shouting gets louder as my parents get angrier at each other. This has been going on for the past year and its getting on my nerves. My father gets mad for the stupidest reasons and takes it out on my mother by verbally abusing her.

The shouts stop so i drag my nine year old self out of mybed to see if they went off to their bedroom to get some sleep. I was halfway down the staircase when I saw my father stop walking in fron of the front door and put a suitcase that was in his one hand down. Was he really that much of a coward that he would walk out on me, my six year old sister Brianna, and my mother?

"Daddy?" I ask in barely more than a whisper. He turns around and his eyes go wide. He must be surprised to see me awake this late at night. He gives me sad eyes. He didn't say anything but I knew what was going on in his head just by the look in his brown eyes.

His eyes said: "I can't live this way anymore." My father turns back around to face the door, picks up his suitcase, and walks out of my life without a backwards glance or even a goodbye.

I broke down crying on the steps. My sister must of heard my crys because the next thing I knew, she was there besides me crying as well. We both fell asleep with dried up tears down our rosy cheeks and in each others arms.

I had no idea where my mother ran to, but one thing was for sure, she was crying.
