Into a Dream

I woke up next to a gravestone that had nothing on it, no hint as to who was buried here, I sat up and looked around. I knew this place all too well, of course I practically lived here. I took a breath as I heard the dragons cry out outside the window. I got up and ran to the window, grabbing the red curtains and fling them aside to see hundreds of dragons flying.

I pushed open the window and let the breeze greet me, I closed my eyes in bliss. The dragons cried out again and there was a sudden whoosh and a gust of wind that pushed my hair back. I opened my eyes and saw that one had landed in front of me.

These dragons were creepy and as familiar as she was with them they never ceased to get her heart thumping. They were from ten to fifteen feet long from snout to tail with a wingspan of thirty feet, they were beastly creatures. Their heads have two horns and a snout that protruded outward into a jaw that formed a beak of its own unique shape. Their eye's were hollowed inward and they had no pupils but the socket glew red. The whole creature was skeletal with its flesh rotting and falling off of its body, its long tail waved freely behind it.

I could tell that it was looking at me as I was looking at it, I wanted to touch it, and suddenly the impulse to do so was too much for me and I reached out. The dragon snorted and I flinched back afraid it was going to bite my hand off, but I continued to rach out to it. My heart was pounding almost painfully in my chest and I was getting closer to feeling the beast that I have been dying to for years. The dragon cried out so loudly that I crouched down and covered my ears. The dragon arched its back and took off into the sky and joined the others.

I stood up and released the breath that I had been holding, I was getting closer to them, and I couldn't deny that it excited me.

I turned on my heels and headed back through the graves to the giant oak doors and shoved them open, they were really heavy and hard to move. The hallway floor was still covered in the familiar black dead grass and I looked up at the ceiling of the huge arches above me.

This castle was so amazing and beautiful and it never ceased to thrill me. Everytime I came here the more I found and experienced. I had yet to leave the castle though, and so far I haven't found anybody that lives here. So far it seemed to be just me.

I didn't mind it like that though. The people close to me kept dying so keeping people at arms length was just better for my mental health. You know, the whole, you can't miss something you never had. I was missing enough and it hurt remembering. I have worked really hard to shut the doors of those particular memories and I had no intention of ever opening the door again.

There really was no art work and what little there was, was a variety of creepy. I chose not to look too closely at them. The halls and craftmanship of the architecture was beautiful enough that artwork just wasn't needed anyways. The huge cascading arches that reached what seemed like fifty feet in the air. The beams that created strange patterns on the ceiling and down to the floor.

I headed down to an opening, like a grand hall or receiving area, I didn't know much about castles but that was what I would have called it. The hall resembeled the hallway in architectural style and I made my way to the huge doors that led to the outside world. It was time I explored a little bit.

A shadow caught my eye and I froze and turned where I saw it. "Hello?" I called, my voice echoing.

After a few moments a chucked it up to be one of the dragons that had to of flown by the window and cast the shadow or something. I was trying to ignore the fact that all the curtains were drawn. I grabbed the door handle when I stopped, something didn't feel right and I couldn't put my finger on it. But the feeling of uneasiness wouldn't go away.
