As If Life Couldn't Get Any Worse

Chapter 3

RRRIiinnnngggg! Ugh, what in the world? Zaphira shot up quickly from the bed only to realize that the annoying ringing on her nightstand was the damn alarm. She swatted it off and turned to get out of the bed. It was Friday morning and she had an interview at a local grocery store across the street from the University. She glanced at the time, It was 9:30 and she had to be there by 11:00, she had plenty of time.

Zaphira placed her feet in the new fuzzy slipper boots that Chloe had gotten for her. Smiling as she remembered just how cool it was, she finally had a best friend. Chloe was so amazing. Over the last week they had gotten to know each other deeply. Zaphira had began to confide in her about all of her past. She explained how her mother had died the during her birth. She even spoke about how she had no clue who her father was at all. Explaining that was how she ended up living in the nursing oprhanage home from the very first day of her life. She usually didn't open up to people that easily but Chloe just had a way with people that made you feel completely comfortable with her. Thinking of Chloe, where had she gone off to again?

Zaphira glanced around the room and it seemed it was a routine for Chloe to disappear during the day when she had stuff to do. Maybe she is out shopping again. Good grief, Zaphira hoped she didn't come back with anything else for her. She felt guilty enough that she had bought her so much stuff already. With a small shrug, oh well I guess I will get in to the shower so I am not late for my interview. She had an interview every day this week from different places and everyone kept telling her the same thing. “We have other people we need to interview, we will call you if we decide to chose you.” She was starting to get worried though, their classes started next week and she still didn't have a job.

The interview last two hours? Yes, two hours for a damn grocery store. They had her do some stupid test on the computer and everything to see what kind of person she was and ...blah blah blah. It was always the same story. she walked back to the dorms feeling defeated and depressed to find Chloe waiting for her in their room.

“Hey Sugar,” Chloe said with the new pet name she had given Zaphira.

“Hey,” she frowned.

“Zaphira, whats wrong? How did the interview go?” Chloe asked being concerned.

She let out a huge sigh... “Well it was the same as alllll of the rest of them. Took forever and they told me they had other people to consider and they would be in touch.”

“I told you that the right job will come along and to quit worrying.” Chloe nudged her trying to boost her spirits. “Besides its not like I don't have your back.” She stared back at her with those adorable baby blue eyes.

“Chloe I am not going to let you take care of me completely. I mean what would I look like. “Zaphira was determined to not...let that happen. She knew Chloe totally would do it too, but there was absolutely no way she was going to allow that to happen.

“I am just going to go back to bed and hope tomorrows a better day.”

“Oh no you don't!” Chloe grabbed Zaphira's arm making her sit back up, “It is Friday night and they are having karaoke tonight at NightHavens. We are totally going...There is going to be tons of hot guys there again. “
