As If Life Couldn't Get Any Worse
Chapter 22
Zaphira laid on the floor tossing and turning in the dirt and vomit. Groans escaping her lips and she jolted awake. Someone was in the room watching her. Eyes seemed to burn into her skin but sadly she just wasn't strong enough to use her enhanced eye sight to figure it out.
“Who is there?” She managed to mumble.
A growl echoed through the room.
A shiver ran down her spine. Well she guessed that answered her question. Someone was here and it definitely was not human. With little bit of energy she had in her she scurried backwards until she ran smack into a cement wall. She groaned a little but quickly shut her mouth as she felt hot breath in her face. Oh God it's going to eat me for sure.
“Pl...please don't kill m..mee,” Zaphira stuttered.
She could hear it's jaws snap a couple times as if it was trying to communicate something but obviously she had no clue what the hell it was saying. Her only hope was that it had said okay. After a few more intimidating minutes it growled a couple more times and then it was gone. Leaving her to breath heavily, trying to inhale as much as as possible.. I guess I was holding my breath.
She sat up and leaned against the wall. There had to be a way to communicate and get herself out of this mess. Maybe I can get Octavian's attention. Forehead wrinkled and eyes closed she reached for her soul-mate. She knew it was going to drain the rest of the energy out of her body. Her body still ached from the bites and beating she had taken from the wolves but without any blood she wasn't going to be able to heal. Whoever had her captive knew that she needed blood to live but obviously didn't want her getting too strong.
She focused intently on opening her mind. “Octavian, can you hear me?”
Zaphira waited to see if he would respond but nothing. She couldn't give up yet. She had to try again, she had to be able to tell him she loved him and she knew he wasn't a monster.
“Octavian? Please tell me you can hear this!” she literally screamed it out of her mind.
“Please I need you! You have to help me.” She pleaded and pleaded hoping that at some point he would finally hear her.
After about thirty minutes of constant screams through her mind to Octavian. She felt exhausted and defeated. Slouching against the way she drifted back to sleep. Maybe if she rested she would have more strength to try again later.

She slept for what seemed like days before she finally awoke to a screaming in her stomach. She needed blood and needed it badly. The little bit of blood she had before was already depleted out of her body. Laying there lifeless she prayed for a miracle.
“Well...well...well.” Came a voice in the room. “So she finally is awake.”
She tried to focus on the voice. It was...somehow familiar to her. Keeping her mouth shut she just laid there. Maybe if she didn't speak long enough she could finally figure out how she knew that voice.
“I know you are awake and I know you are starving!” The voice flatly stated as it began to cackle maliciously.
“Not feeling so well?”
Still not responding she kept her mouth shut. Trying to place where she knew the voice from.
“I am guessing you want this here blood that I have in my hand?” The voice teased Zaphira as it began to pace just out of reach. A small light was glowing from a distance allowing Zaphira to see a shadow standing in front of her.
