The wind whisked past me as I ran, the feeling of panic overflowing my veins. Being late to class was the last thing I needed today. Unfortunately for me, class was all the way across the other side of the school. If I was tardy again I'd be sentenced to detention for the weekend. Why would I do that when I could just read 48 hours straight under the covers of my duvet? Luckily, I had 4 minutes to spare as I ran through the swarming hallways.
Art was my favorite class, but I wasn't exactly favored by Ms. Fae. The reason being my constant tardies. Hey, It wasn't my fault I had to run 5,000 miles through sweaty adolescent teens to get there. I gradually got closer to the door, picking up my pace. My feet and knees ached as i took each leap, my heart pumping out of its chest.
I finally crossed the finish line, the bell ringing as I victoriously danced. Ms. Fae smiled and rolled her doe eyes, giving me a sense of relief. The breath I was holding was soon realeased as I scanned the messy classroom.
I saw my best friend Wesley, smiling as he laid his hand on top of the uncomfortable blue chair next to him. He waved me over, his flashy white teeth making an appearance. I waited a while though, my eyes bouncing to different tables in the room. My eyes finally landed on an empty table, only occupied by one person.
His hair sat on top of his head; his chocolate curls lazily styled into a quiff. His gaze was on the table top, hard and serious. His jaw clenched as he noticed me staring, finally meeting my eyes. Even from across the room, I could see those daring green eyes. They narrowed at the sight of me, clearly not enjoying my staring. I studied him, the look on his face suddenly turned to confusion as we locked our gaze.
"Ms. Lennox will you please take a seat? We do have a thing called class, you know." My head snapped towards Ms. Fae, her hips jutted out as she laid her hands on top of them. I sighed, looking back to Wesley. He looked confused as I turned the opposite direction, walking towards the green eyed boy.
"Hello." I sat across from him, putting my things beside me. He looked down as he played with his fingers. Gaining no reply, I repeated my welcome.
"Hello?- You across from me. Why aren't you replying? There is clearly no one else at this table I'd be speaking to." Catching his attention, his head snapped up. Finally, I got a good look of him. His tanned face looked smooth, with only a few blemishes here and there. His chapped lips were caught in his perfect teeth as he gnawed on them, acting as if they were eroding. Green eyes sparkled in the light, his pupils dilated as he looked upon me. This boy is undoubtedly attractive.
"Hi." His english accent was thick as he spoke. British? How interesting.
"I assume you aren't from the states then, considering your accent."
"You assumed correctly." He kept it short and simple, obviously displaying he wasn't up for a chat. Didn't mean I was going to oblige to his request, of course.
"Where are you from then? London?" I was curious, I supposed everyone who was english basically lived in the London area.
"Uh Cheshire actually. Not really even close to London. Why are you sitting with me?" He questioned me rudely, but i didn't let it get to me. He sat back and continued to play with his enormous hands.
"I find you intriguing. I also felt bad that you were sitting here alone, so i thought company would be pleasing. What's your name?" I actually didn't feel bad. I was just truly enthralled by him. I was sure he knew it, too.
The boy was laughing uncontrollably, almost tauntingly. As Ms. Fae scolded us, the laughter died down.
"Why are you laughing? I didn't say anything funny."
"It's funny that you find me intriguing. I'm anything but." He sighed, rubbing his tatted hand over his eye.
"I doubt that."
"Well, I don't." His gaze was hard on me as he looked back down to his hands.
I sat, feeling stumped at his answer. I wasn't really good at debating, so i gave it up.
"Can you just tell me your name?" I sighed, almost feeling regret about sitting with the mysterious boy.
"Harry." I liked it. It fit him beautifully.
"Pleasure to meet you Harry. I'm Mia. I hope we can become friends?" He looked upon me with amusement, frowning soon after.
"No." Harry's voice was stern as he turned back to the lesson. What?
"Uhm, What?"
"Oh apparently you can't hear well, I said No." Why was he so closed off? All i asked was for us to be friends, not his hand in marriage.
"No need to be rude, Harry." I got no reply as I turned back to Ms. Fae's lesson, expressing her love for Frida Kahlo.
My mind swam back to Harry. Why was he so short with me? Usually people enjoyed making new friends, not shutting them down right when they start talking with them.
I didn't know much about Harry,
But I wanted to.
