Third Person Pov

As beautiful as it was, love came with a cost.

Seventeen years. Seventeen years of life. A life that came to an abrupt end.

When the two siblings left home that fateful day, one did not think that they would be returning without the other. It was one sick twist of fate.

They had been having a great time, basking in the joy of the others company.

All of that fun soon came to a close. A loud cracking sound echoed throughout the quiet woods, forcing the smiles and laughter to cease.

Both of them slowly looked down at the marred ice. Their stomachs dropped as their horrors were affirmed. Underneath the youngest sibling, was a ring of fractured ice.

This was it, she had barely had a chance to live her life, and she was going to die.

Her labored breaths were the only sounds that could be heard. It had begun to sink in. She was going to die.

In that moment, Jack knew that he had to do something. He wasn't sure what he was going to do, but he knew that he had to save her from the clutches of death.

It took some quick thinking, but he managed to switch their positions. Who would have thought that a game of hopscotch would save a life?

Unfortunately, their relief was short-lived.

Jack stood and smiled down at his sister. He took a step forward to help her up and walk her home. Everything was supposed to be fine.

All of a sudden, the ice he was standing on collapsed in on itself and brought the seventeen-year old down with it.

She screamed his name in terror before going completely rigid. A lone tear streamed down her face and she ran to go and get her mother.

Since he shouted during his fall, he had already swallowed much water. He flailed his arms around, attempting to reach the surface. Panic and terror overruled his mind as a burning sensation set in due to the lack of air.
His attempts to move toward the surface got sluggish and his eyes were beginning to close.

'At least she's safe.' Was his last thought.

After his eyes finally closed, he knew no more.
