I stand up to leave the room, but he grabs my wrist and stands up himself.
"Let go,"
"Listen to me, Ayla," he says placing his hands on my shoulder.
"Open up. Please, that's the only way I can help you,"
I push his hands off me. "Let's not switch roles here, shall we? I'm the helper,"
He scans my face, and then sighs. He grabs his car keys from the side table and slams the front door shut. Where did he go at this time? It's almost 8.
To kill time I decide to watch tv in his living room. As I'm looking for the remote, I spot his phone there too. This man is crazy, even left his phone behind.
***
Currently it's 10 at night and Mr. Richard is still missing. Deliberately. I start pacing around the room, he can't be gone long when he knows I'm here all alone. Just then his phone starts ringing. I look at the caller ID to see it's unknown.
"Hello?" I speak into the phone.
"Hi Mrs. Richard we've called to inform you that Mr. Richard is in the hospital. In Lonedale Valley Hospital. He got into a car accident, but there's nothing to worry about as he only has minor injuries. If you could please come here-,"
"I'm coming," I say cutting her off. I call the taxi and in about 15 minutes I arrive at my destination.
I run towards emergency and ask about him. A volunteer there leads me towards where James is admitted. Before I could enter the room someone places their hand on my shoulder, I turn around to see a doctor.
"You must be Ayla," he says. "I'm doctor Reynolds. He's doing much better but the painkillers are making him drowsy. He will be kept here until tomorrow morning but after that you can take him home,"
"Thank you. There's nothing to worry about right?" I ask.
"Nothing to worry about. But I must say he shouldn't drive when his temper isn't in his control," the doctor says.
Shit. It's all my fault. My fucking fault. If I hadn't failed chemistry, this wouldn't have happened. I'm the biggest dumbass of life. The doctor leaves and I open the door to go inside.
His eyes are closed, and that makes me so scared. What if tonight something worse could've happened because of me. I grab the chair and drag it next to his bed.
"James," I whisper in his ear as I lean down towards him. My hair falls on his face but before I could push it aside he does it.
His chocolate brown eyes hold an emotion I can't point out.
There's no such thing as love. They'll hurt you. At the end everyone's a fucking cunt.
My words, my own words that I told myself a few months ago remind me not to fall in the trap of lying again.
Sitting up straight I push my chair back a little. I might've slipped for a second but I can't do this to myself. Not again. My walls are built up for everyone in this world, even for my own parents.
Letting anyone in is like preparing yourself for suicide. As long as you don't give someone the power to hurt you, you'll never get hurt. And that means not to have love for anyone in this world.
I look back to the person who almost made me forget my own rules.
"How are you feeling now?" I ask him.
Instead of responding he just stares at me.
"To be completely honest I'm in pain. But it's not just me, I can see pain in someone's eyes too.
They want to hide it, but it's evident. You know Ayla, sometimes hiding everything can be really dangerous to health,"
He doesn't understand. No one will ever understand. My problem exactly, why open up when the other person won't get even one thing out of it. Why waste time?
"The doctor said they'll keep you here until tomorrow morning. Do you want anything to eat?" I ask him.
"No,"
He hasn't eaten in a long time now. I get up to get him food.
"Where are you going?" He asks me.
"I'll be back in a few minutes,"
Downstairs is a small cafe so I settle on buying him coffee and a sandwich. Lucky me there's only two people in line and so my turn comes pretty quick.
I place my order and as I'm waiting for it my phone beeps.
Ayla dear your dad and I are going out of town for a short business trip tomorrow. It'll take us a week or two. Till then you can stay at your aunts or with your friend, choice is yours. :)
I smile at her text, she knows I can't decline the offer to stay at my aunts. Her cute little baby and I get along so well.
Just as I'm about to text her back, the thought of staying with Mr. Richard clicks in my mind. He got into an accident because of me, I should stay with him and take care of him until he gets better.
Hey mama, I'll take the offer of staying at my friends this time. Hope you and dad have an amazing time! Stay safe :)
I'm my parents favourite. Because you're their only child. I laugh at my inner voice. I grab Mr. Richards food and head back upstairs.
"Here you go," I give him the food.
"Hope I got the coffee right,"
He opens the lid to see what coffee I got him.
"Black," he says. "My favourite," I smile remembering this morning.
"My parents are going out of town for a business trip," I start and he looks at me intently.
"Usually I stay with my aunt, but because of me you got into a car accident and until you feel better I'll be staying with you," he looks shocked.
"Hope that's okay?" I ask him.
"Ayla it's not your fault. But I'm more than happy to keep you with me," he smiles at me and I genuinely return it back.
Let's see what these two weeks have to offer.
One things for sure these two weeks will be the silence before storm.
