I was on the phone with my mother when I noticed the time. 5:00 pm. Will would be home soon and I had to get dinner started. My mother was rambling on about what a great time she was having in Las Vegas with her friends, getting off the phone was not going to be easy.

"Mom I have to go okay? I love you!" I said quickly, ready to hang up before she could keep going.

" Wait, wait, wait!" ... oh boy. "I'll be back in a little over a week, I want to have you and Will over for dinner when I get back."

Will and I just got an apartment together just outside of Jackson, NH. Ever since I moved out my mother has been hounding me about visiting more. It had only been a month or so!

"Yes mother we will come over for dinner." I sighed into the phone. "I really have to go now okay? I love you, have fun!"

"Wait, do you guys...." Click.

If she was really having so much fun why was she constantly calling me. I love my mother but she was never a good mom, we never got along when we lived together. I was always more of a mother than she was. All of my siblings had moved away from her, My sister Ella goes to college in Arizona and my other sister Jenna lives in Massachusetts. Only my brother Richie stuck around and it was not out of love. He hated my mother.

When I was six our father died, and in the years after my mother had a number of boyfriends who came in and out of the house. My mother was more concerned with her men than she was us, and her men were always drunk and angry, Riche got the worst of it and my mother let it happen.

Anyways, I was the last to move out so now that I'm gone she's playing super nice. Will and I have a beautiful rustic style apartment which I keep very clean and homey but it does not compare to the beautiful secluded cabin hidden in acres of tall oaks that I grew up in. However, getting away from my mother and being here, alone with Will, was all worth it. I met Will when I was 15, and he was 17. We fell in love at first sight and have been absolutely inseparable ever since. I could never imagine being without him.

Before I started dinner I went into the bathroom to tie up my long dark brown hair and wash my hands. I looked into the mirror and whipped the makeup from under my bright green eyes. I clutched the gold heart shaped locket that hung around my neck and smiled. Will gave it to me for my birthday two years ago, it contained a picture of us kissing with bright red and yellow leaves in the background, I love NH in the fall. On the other side, engraved into the soft gold was written "My Heart." I love, love, love him.

Just as I shut off the bathroom light and made my way to the kitchen I heard the front door slam shut. Will was home early! I smiled and ran to go greet him but when he finally came into view I stopped in my tracks and the smile on my face disappeared. I think I might have even stopped breathing. It was Will alright. Only his jeans were soaked in blood and in his hand he held his blood soaked t-shirt. He was breathing heavily and sweat was beading from his forehead, his whole body shook.

"Will..." I said cautiously as I slowly approached him. I felt like the whole world was moving in slow motion.

He held out his hand in front of him. I couldn't tell if he was motioning for me to stop, or if he was trying to say "let me explain", probably both.

"Hannah..."
