Frost walked off to the forest

Frost walked off to the forest.  She began worrying, as she was not used to being somewhere so dark, and on her own whilst exploring it.  She had gotten fairly far into it, about twenty or so trees, She saw a tiki in the shape of a human, but with a dog's head.

Maybe that's what they make to prove they were there? Frost thought.

She circled the unusual tiki, feeling at unease.  Upon closer inspection, its eyes appeared to be following her. She shuddered, then slowly began to look for the exit, but she could not remember where she had entered.  She began to panic and rushed behind the tiki, then just ran her way through the remaining woods.  She heard footsteps behind her, slow and steady...

She ran faster.  Determined to escape this force following her, she saw a light at the end of this seemingly never ending clump of trees.  Nearly tripping over her own paws, she stumbled out into the open, and over to her treehouse.  She began to climb the ropes quickly, and pulled them back up as fast as her tiny kitten arms could manage.  She was safe, at least for now.

She was safe, at least for now

Crystal ran across the clearing.

It's awfully... hole-ey around here.  She thought.  It was true, there appeared to be odd clusters of craters, cracks, and crevices scattered all over the clearing she was ordered to explore.

She looked closely, inspecting each hole to find any traces of dog scent.  She didn't find anything out of the ordinary in terms of smell, but perhaps that was because she had never known what a dog smelled like.

She felt the ground shake below her, and raised her head.  A number of feet ahead of her, a yellow cloud of smoke erupted from one of the holes.  She walked toward the -now that she realized, much larger- hole and saw smoke still billowing from the top.

She gradually inched closer and closer, as the mustard colored smoke began to disappear.   She peered inside, and saw a thin layer of lava.  She looked around, wondering what to do.  She decided to slip off one of her black gloves, and touched the red-orange liquid with her pointer finger.

Takes care of that...  Crystal thought,  Now where's Aura?

-Five Hours Later-

Crystal made her way back to the treehouse.  Sky was sitting -or rather, levitating- in an area she had previously not seen.  It was a ring of logs centered around a campfire.  Frost was running toward the log circle as well.

"About time," Skye said. "I was hoping you guys would be a bit faster to complete your missions." She scowled at the two.  Crystal didn't understand how she could be so mad at them if they still did their jobs.

"Well," said Crystal, "What did you do while we were doing our missions?"

"I was scouting the sky, when all of the sudden, I felt a jolt of lighting.  It was a very odd sensation," Skye responded.

"Big deal."

"But it was sideways."

"PFFT!  Sideways lightning!  You're full of crap!"

"Unless you want to go on your own, you'd better stick with me, you profane scum!"

"STOP IT!" Frost yelled.

The two simmered down, and uttered their apologies.  The felines sat down and stared at the fire.

"So I think I got chased today," Frost sighed, "I was in the forest, and I saw this carving.  It was a bit uncanny, but looked like a dog.  I thought it looked at me for a second, so I ran."

"Go on," Skye goaded.

" and I heard footsteps behind me."

Skye shuddered.  This could be some convincing evidence.

The two cats comforted Frost, and made  their way back to the treehouse.  Frost and Crystal slowly climbed up the rope ladder, while Skye flew her way up.  Aura was waiting for them, and greeted the group with a warm smile, purring while doing so.  The nearly human cats made their ways to bed, getting some well-deserved rest.
