The Survival Experiment

Chapter 1: My Awakening...

I was walking down the street on my way home from the movies when a silver Camaro slows down suddenly, the window rolls down and a gun slithers out from the darkness. All I remember is the flash of pain before I blacked out. I woke up a couple of times in a hospital, one time I even saw Ashlyn, a really beautiful girl that goes to my school and also one of my very close friends. She was screaming at somebody who was out of my line of vision, probably the doctor, I thought. The doctor asked me a really weird question, he said "We're going to send you to a place that will save you, are you willing to let them do anything to save you?" Ashlyn was crying and nodding her head in the background, all I could manage was a nod in return. That was the last time I woke up in a safe place.

My name is Luke Koneru, I'm 17 years old and I live in Virginia. I have jet black hair, i'm kinda tall, and I am or was a government assassin. I dealt with the dirty business of the president and his close officials. I took my father's place, because he was killed by the most powerful mafia in north and central America.

I slowly opened my eyes, the first thing I saw was the girls. I didn't know either of them... at all, I was laying in sand on a beach. I could smell the salt in the air. "Where am I?" I groaned sitting up, "I feel like crap." But weirdly enough I didn't feel as bad as I should have. I looked around and noticed that I was on an island, the beach was in front of me and the lush dark jungle behind me.

"We seem to be on an island.." one girl replied, I looked at her, she had beautiful brown hair and molten gold eyes, she looked down as if she were going to cry.

"Hey don't be upset, we'll survive" I slowly got to my feet and noticed a stack of supplies off to my left, " I think we should check those out yes?" I laugh and walk over to the supplies. Why am I so calm?. I felt like I should be freaking out right now. I started digging through the them and found what I needed. " How long have you guys been awake, you think?" I asked turning around, a spear in hand.

"We dunno maybe five to 10 minutes?" The same girl responded. The other nodded confirmation.

"Ok well before we do anything, my name is Luke and I think I almost died, I have no idea whats going on, but some doctor did something to me to save me. I think" I shrugged introducing myself. Why am I being so open? This isn't like me at all...

"I'm Kora and I share the same story, I almost died or did die. I'm not sure either" the girl with the brown hair and gold eyes replied. I dug the spear head into the sand and turned it in circles. "My name is Ashton, I know. It's boyish, but just call me Ash. Anyway, I don't remember anything, so yea.. I don't know what is going on either." the other girl responded, she had black hair and emerald green eyes. It felt as if her eyes didn't just see me, they saw through me. Weird to say I know, but it really felt that way.

"What does that mean?" I shook my head thinking, trying to figure out why we were put together. " I'll figure that out later, y'all hungry?" I asked, not wanting to think about our current issue. They both nodded. Very quiet group, I thought, laughing to myself.

"Alright if you can, set up a fire. I'll be back as soon as I can" I turn away and head off into the dense jungle. It was light for a little bit as you walked in, then it got dark. Really fast. For no reason I began to get a feeling of panic inside me, I began jogging, then running.I need to get out of here ASAP, I yelled in my mind as leaves and branches whipped me in the face as I shot by, I spotted a spring and slowed down and crouched on its edge and splashed myself with water.I stared at my reflection wondering what was wrong with me, and why I was placed here. I couldn't understand where this feeling of panic and fear was coming from, It couldn't be the jungle itself......or could it? I pondered staring into the turquoise water. I glanced across the water and saw two eyes staring back at me, it had antlers, it was a deer. Or very similar to one, it had a very dark grey and black coat. It was fully grown, it looked huge. But its antlers were small. I slowly stood up and pulled my arm back, when my arm was fully extended I threw the spear, staring at the deer's throat.I ran around the little spring and pulled out the knife I grabbed from the supplies, beginning to skin my dead quarry. "At least this went somewhat well." I murmured to myself. When I finished I hesitantly lifted it onto my shoulder-I dislike blood-and began running through the dense jungle, the desperate feeling of panic creeping into my soul once more. I burst through the trees into the light out of breath, slowly calming down.

"What happened?" Ash asked, a worried look darkening her soft features.

"What's that?! Its gigantic" Kora asked pointing to the "deer" I killed.

"I dunno' it looks like a deer to me, but it had the weirdest fur. It was like a mix of black and grey." I replied looking at the bloody carcass on my shoulder and gagging to myself. "Grab a giant leaf for me please Kora" I asked nodding my head towards a palm off to my left.

"Ok" she replied hopping up from where she was sitting and walking over to the tree.

"The jungle... it gave me a weird ominous feeling of death, it made me panic, it was so weird" I announced, glancing back at the dense jungle behind me. Then I slowly got up and walked over to the fire, slinging the "deer" over it onto the sticks they set up. "I'm wiped out i dunno what's up with that jungle but no one goes in there alone anymore got it?" I announced calmly.

"Got it" the girls chorused. This isn't too bad I guess... I laid down onto the cool sand pondering what in the world was going on and why we were here.
