Coraline's POV:
I stand in the doorway feeling the heat flame on my cheeks, as I continue to listen in on the conversation my parents were having on the other side of that one blank white wall. My breath quicken with every word I hear, and every piece of glass that I can imagine hitting the floor. All the anger floods to the front of my mind making me want to go over there and punch some sense into both of my parents. Then the sadness comes in and washes over me, it slaps me straight in the face and makes me remember what happened the last time I did something that I wasn't supposed to. But the difference between then and now is that I have a choice. Either I leave and never come back, make another life for myself in another town with other friends, and put myself into another school. Or, I stay here and sit on the staircase continuing to listen to the argument that my parents are having for the hundredth time, and wait till it's too late to try and leave.
"Good-bye." I whimpered, as I headed back up the stairs tip-toeing back to my room. Once up the stairs I turned to the right and headed for the end of the hall where my room was. Twisting the doorknob I open my door and go inside my room closing the door quietly behind me. Once in my room I lean my back up against the wall and let out a deep breath that I didn't notice I was holding in.
Time to go, nagged the voice in the back of my head. It really was time to go. I look at my clock and see that it's midnight already. Rushing towards my closet I grab my empty bookbag and stuff in pants, shirts, shoes, socks, underclothes. Everything that seems necessary to take.
My phone alarm went off. It's 12:50am, I'm running late. Dammit! Throwing my phone charger in my bookbag, and my blanket and pillow, I rush out of my window. Throwing my bag down as I began to step down the ladder. Jumping off the last two steps I grab my bag then sprint to the meeting point. This is it. I can't turn back now.
Stopping right by the park just a few streets away from my house I sit on a swing pushing it lightly back and forth. Pulling my phone out from my back pocket I turn on itunes playing "Dangerous Woman by Ariana Grande". Starting to swing at a moderate pace I begin humming to the song.
"-dangerous woman!"
"What the hell Jo!!" I screeched, jumping off of the swing. She began laughing as though this were something to be funny about. I held my heart as it beat rapidly, looking at her with the scariest stare that I could muster. After a little she noticed that I wasn't joking and stared straight back at me with a glum look.
"It's not my fault that you're too uptight to even take a joke." She said before walking towards my bag and lifting it off of the ground. Throwing it at me she says, "You're not gonna make it out in the real world for long if you don't know how to take a fucking joke Coraline." Now she was no longer wearing that stupid glum look, but a face that matched my own.
"Come on." Jo started walking towards the road behind the park. Rushing up beside her I ask, "You didn't tell me about anything that we were going to do once I got out of my house. So..?"
"Get in the car and I will explain." I stopped where I stood, which was only a few steps away from her shiny black mustang. She kept walking until she reached the passenger door, pulling it open and then turning around only to see that I wasn't by her. Her eyebrows scrunched then she slammed the car door shut and smiled breathing out a deep sigh.
"Damn, are you hard to bait." Bait? What the fuck does that mean? Is she using me for something?
"Oh, baby girl, you need to break your innocence." Now it was my turn to scrunch my eyebrows. "You know what I mean. You're not stupid. You know that I sell drugs, you know that I run the whole show on that shit. But my favorite is that you know who tagged that number on your sister's head. Yeah?" Her smile curled into something of a grin.
"I don't-"
"Before you can finish that shitty lie. I want to ask you something." Opening the passenger door once again she says, "Will you be my lady of the year and ride with me to our wonderful freedom?"
"Are-are you serious?!" I asked. My heart beat now slowing down, I look up at her with tears in my eyes.
"I missed you, Jo." I said as I ran to her throwing my arms around her happily. God, have I missed her. I thought she had left me too. I hoped she had so that she would be safe.
"I missed you too, Ra." Jo said. Tears rushed down my cheeks.
"I'll miss you, Jo." She pulled back holding my shoulders. Looking at me with a confused look I smile sadly as I pull a small shot gun from my hoodie pocket. Pointing it at her I feel tears rush down even faster as she pushes away from me then walks to the left slowly.
"Ra?" I hold the gun down a bit as the nickname pulled old memories from the back of my mind.
"Yeah, Jo?" I asked as I stared at her with watery eyes.
"Give me a good burial will ya?" She smiled laughing, tears now streaming down her face too. "Oh, and give me the gun."
Shock covered my face. She has to be joking right? I have to kill her. I can't give her the fucking gun 'cause if I do I will die and that just can't happen. I can't let that happen.
"Ok." She slowly walks over towards me then stops right in front of the gun grabbing it with her hands and facing it towards herself. With one hand she reaches out and grabs my hand then tells me, "Put it over top of my hand and we can pull the trigger together, okay?" Her face calm and relaxed as she gives me one last smile.
"If you don't pull the trigger I will pull it myself, Ra." She stated with a stirn face before closing her eyes and letting one tears drip down her face and off her chin.
"Don't leave me, Jo." I whispered.
She closes her hand tight around the handle then pushes her finger a little on the trigger and-
Pht!
