**MATURE CONTENT, PLEASE BE 16+ TO READ**I was checking the till when the bell chimed, signaling that a customer had just entered the shop. Oh, how I loved my bell. It made such a delightful little ding that was simply music to my ears. It was almost like a melody. "Hello and welcome to Ida's Joy! May I help you today, Sir?", I asked politely, my eyes downcast as I gently closed the cash register.
I tried my best to hurriedly close the old register. I was just itching with excitement to see who had wandered inside of the shop! When you entered Ida's Joy, you became a member of my family. I looked at each and every single one of my customers, both regulars and newcomers, as dear friends. I tried my very best to treat all that entered my bookstore with the utmost respect and kindness. I had no family of my own, and I hadn't for a very long time. My customers had been there for me when no one else had. And I, well I...I tried my very best to be there for all of them in return.
The register clicked, signaling that it had closed and locked. Finally! Inhaling a deep breath, I tried my best to keep my giddy expression to a minimum. I could feel the nervous energy swarming throughout my body. My legs were shaking and I had to bite my lip to keep from giggling. I was so excited! Who could it be today? Could it be the mailman, the paperboy, the Walker Twins...could it be Jack?
"Hello, ma'am. My name is Sin. Sin Álvaro.", a strong voice captured my attention and pulled me from my wandering thoughts. With a startled gasp, I looked up...to meet the stomach of my customer. "Ma'am, are you okay?" His voice was strong and held a sense of power. I wanted to see his face. Stepping back, I tilted my head back until the back of my head met my shoulder blades. Goodness gracious, this man was nearly two feet taller than me!
It felt as though all of the breath in my body had left my lungs when my eyes met his. "I-I...um...I KNEW YOU WERE TROUBLE WHEN YOU WALKED IN, SO SHAME ON ME NOW, FLEW ME TO PLACES I'D NEVER BEEN, 'TIL YOU PUT ME DOWN, OH, I KNEW YOU WERE TROUBLE WHEN YOU WALKED IN, SO SHAME ON ME NOW, FLEW ME TO PLACES I'D NEVER BEEN, NOW I'M LYING ON THE COLD HARD GROUND." Oh. My. Lanta. Had I really just belted out Taylor Swift's lyrics? In front of the oh so beautiful and mysteriously giant man?
Well, they did match your thoughts, Ida Rose. They did, indeed.
With a gasp, I smacked my hand over my mouth. My eyes were wide as I stared up at the beautiful man who's face held an amused smirk and I couldn't help but shoot a glare up at his smug expression. He thought this was funny.
See, Taylor Swift even knew he was trouble when he walked in. Need I say more? "That was a...beautiful, uh...melody, that you had going on there." His voice was strained, and I could see he was trying his best to contain his laughter. Go on and laugh it up, buddy. See if I help you find the book you're looking for then! Ha! I'm the owner, I can do that. In your face, bucko!
Loud cackling sounded from the giant before me, "Bucko?! That's who am I to you now, huh...Red?" Oh my gracious, had I said that out loud? A devilish grin replaced the smug expression that he wore only moments before. I wished that I could wipe this one off too. Butthole. I was going to try to ignore his annoying efforts to further embarrass me, and be the bigger person, and help him. "How may I hel– wait, what did you just call me?" My voice was a steely calm.
The calm before the storm, you mean.
"Red."
I knew you were trouble when you walked in...
