"Mum I have to tell you something. Promise you won't hate me?" Dan says nervously.
"Of course not. I couldn't ever hate you Danielle." Dan's mum answers. "Mum. It's not Danielle it's Dan. I'm a boy" Dan's mum chuckles. "Sweetheart. What kind of trick is this. I know you are a girl I gave birth to you." He sighs. "Mum, I'm a boy in a girls body. I'm transgender." Then his mum's face changes. He can't read the mood his mum is feeling but it doesn't look so good. "Danielle. Stop this nonsense. You are a girl. You are my daughter. You are a female. I love you but you aren't a boy, you are certainly not my son and you definitely are not a male." Dan starts tearing up. He runs to his room and slams his door. He screams into his pillow. Then he wishes something. He wishes his dad was here. Not because his dad would accept him. That's definitely not the case. It's because his mum always tried to be better than his dad. And she was, almost. If he came out when his dad was here then his mum would at least act like she accepted him. But he would believe the lies. Even though his dad would most likely beat him up.
