Eight years later...

Jade was agonizing over how she had to go to school right when she woke up. She knew she had to see Luke again, and she already knew how that was going to turn out. Luke hated her and was never going to like her. She knew that she shouldn't like Luke considering how his personality remained the same all throughout those years but the wolf part of her was still urging her to like him.

Jade was making her way downstairs when she was stopped by her mother.

"Hey Jade, what do you want for breakfast?"

"Sorry mom, I don't feel particularly hungry today," Jade replied.

"Alright then, I guess. Nervous on your first day back?" Jade's mom looked at her expectantly.

"Yeah. Sorry, I'll be going now. See you!" Jade hastily ran out the door and closed it. As she made her way to the school bus, she was immediately flooded with the scents of many people and sighed as she was reminded, again, of the reason she was homeschooled. When she was younger, the scents overwhelmed her so much that she couldn't have much social interaction. As a result, she had to stop going to school, but now that she was older she had decided to try it out again.

Walking into the school, Jade immediately saw Luke surrounded by a crowd of girls. Her breath hitched when he looked right at her but then became disappointed when his gaze suddenly passed by her onto Kelly, who was notoriously known as the school slut. Jade made her way to her first class and plopped her backpack on a seat in the back of the room, next to nobody. Suddenly, she noticed that someone sat next to her.

"Hey! I'm Alex." Jade looked up to see a boy with curly black hair, electric blue eyes, perfectly tanned skin, and bulging biceps. Jade noticed that he smelled like rain on pavement.

"Hi, nice to meet you. I'm Jade." She started to become nervous. What if he decided to be mean to her immediately?

"I really like your outfit," Alex smiled.

"Thanks!" Jade replied, surprised. She wasn't wearing anything special, only a plaid t-shirt and jeans. So far nobody else had made an effort to be nice to her yet. Alex seemed to be really nice so far.

"Class is starting!" An incredibly loud voice at the front of the classroom boomed out, scaring and shocking everyone.

"Talk to you later," Alex mouthed to Jade.

Jade smiled. She finally had a friend!

Luke woke up with three girls draped over him and his best friends, Tommy and Rob. The air smelled like beer from the party yesterday. Luke shoved off one of the girls and got up. Was her name Kelly? He didn't even really like her, but he didn't have much of a choice. Luke's mate was absolutely hideous. What was her name again? Jane? Something like that. He hadn't seen her in a long time, but all his memories of her were that she was ugly.

He shook Tommy and Rob and they both woke up groggily.

"I'd understand if you guys don't wanna go to school today, but if you don't go, clean up my house for me. I have another party to throw today," Luke commanded.

"Got it. We're more servants than friends to you huh?" Tommy muttered, rubbing his forehead. "I drank so much yesterday, they probably won't even let me in the school in this state. Tell the teachers I'm out sick today, okay Luke?"

"Sure," Luke answered back. "Rob, what about you?"

"Yeah, same," Rob replied, yawning.

Luke left the room gingerly, making sure not to step on anybody and made his way to the bathroom to clean up. If he was going to school today, he had to leave a good impression on everyone.

Ugh, school is so boring, Luke thought. The only reason Luke even goes is that he's going to be the alpha of his wolf pack when he was eighteen years old. If he wasn't going to be the alpha, he'd totally be ditching school.

Luke thought that he might've seen his mate at school. She was sitting next to the loser guy that nobody talks to. He guessed that she must still be a loser if she was hanging out with people like that. When he saw Kelly, Luke did a double take. He was stunned to see how cleaned up Kelly looked at school. He could've sworn she looked completely different at his house earlier this morning. She looked so hungover. He shrugged. Kelly always cared about her appearance at school too.

Alex was so excited for school. He was so happy to have finally made a friend! Back in middle school, no one would really talk to him. Jade was so pretty and nice! It was tragic that she had to have Luke for her mate. Alex sometimes went to Luke's parties, mostly out of peer pressure. He saw some of the things that happened there. Luke was a terrible person.

What if.. what if Alex was her mate instead? He held that thought in his mind for a few seconds, then shrugged it off. Never mind. He would never be the one for her anyways. Better to give up now than to wallow in a pit of loneliness.
