Halloween Special

A semi-sequel to 'She Told Me She Loves Me, Oh Crap'

"The Shingles"

'JAMES'S POV'

It was the end of October, so Jonathon, Carl and I decided to have a guys vacation and spend some time together, just the guys and no "chicks to tell us what to do" as Carl put it. So we headed out of town into what only I could only describe as the middle of nowhere. There were just forests and mountains surrounded us and boxing us in. But the sun was still high in the sky so the scenery was actually astounding. We were heading to an old hotel that Carl's uncle owned. He said that his uncle normally closes it down during the holidays and needed someone to take care of it.

I was driving the car, even though I still didn't have my licence but at least Kate wasn't driving down these wavy roads otherwise we would have all died. Carl was in the passengers seat looking at the map, while Jonathon was in the back. He was looking straight ahead, his head forward and his eyes just under his eyebrows. It was a sinister stare if ever I saw one.

I looked up at the rear view mirror for a second time and saw that he was still doing it.

"Jonathon, can you stop with that look, its really creepy." I asked him

"What look?

His facial expression had returned back to normal.

"Hey, James did you remember to put our bags in the car?" Carl asked

At that moment I remembered I hadn't.

"D'oh!" I grunted to myself

I turned around and went back home.

10:36am

A couple of hours later we were back on the wavy road.

"Hey, James did you remember to defrost the freezer?" Carl asked again

"D'oh!" I grunted again

12:44pm

I turned around and went back home again.

We were back on the wavy road again at last.

"Hey, James did you remember to send off that charity check?" Carl asked

I didn't turn around this time, I didn't want to waste any more time driving back and forth.

"James? James?"

We finally arrived at the hotel, it was a marvel to behold, from what I could tell it looked to be very old but in good condition, there was a maze just next to it as well. I drove the car directly up to the entrance. There was some scaffolding on the right side of the entrance with painters on, and as I drove up to the entrance I hit the scaffolding, knocking the painters off. Accidentally of course.

After parking the car, we took our bags out and made our way the lobby, it wasn't like anything I had ever seen before, oil paintings on the wall and beautiful carpets that lined the floor with chairs and sofas on either side. It was a sight to behold. The lobby was also very large and produced an echo.

"HELLO!" Carl shouted

"HELLO!" His echo shouted back.

"HELLO!" Jonathon shouted

"HELLO!" His echo also shouted back

Now it was my turn

"HELLO!" I shouted

"SHUT UP!" My echo shouted back

A man in formal wear walked towards us, he was an older man, maybe in his mid 70's. He walked up to us but addressed Carl as this was his uncles hotel.
