'JAMES'S POV'
It was late afternoon and I was on my way home. I had been home for the past week but this time Kate and I would be able to spend some quality time together. I walked down the street and realised that I would be late getting home so I decided to take a short cut. I entered the ally that was just ahead of me and walked down the narrow concrete hallway.
As I walked down the ally the sun descended, I looked at my watch. It was only 5:32pm. So this sudden darkness was strange, but also I felt a tingling at the back of my head. It was as if someone was watching me, as if my life was for entertainment, like a book or something. I came out of the ally and the sun came back up and was shining high in the sky.
I stood on the side walk outside of the ally and looked around to get my bearings. I looked at the cinema that was there, I thought about watching a movie. I looked at what was meant to be on, one caught my eye.
Roger Ebert: The Movie starring Rob Schneider.
I would have watched it, even though it was voted the worst movie ever. I heard it was given ten thumbs down by a certain reviewer. I looked down the floor and saw that there was a lottery ticket stuck in the corner between the wall and floor. I picked it up and noticed that it hadn't been scratched. I fished about my person for anything to scratch it with.I had nothing. I looked around to see if there was at least a coin on the ground, there wasn't. I saw a hobo in the ally that I came through, I walked over to him.
“Hey buddy, have you got a quarter?”
“You're asking me for a quarter?” The hobo said
“I'll give it back.”
He gave me a coin and I scratched the ink on the ticket. I scratched the ink away and could see a donkey, a key and a house. I had no idea if I had won anything.
“You've won there boy” The hobo said
“I have?”
I looked at the ticket again and I still couldn't tell.
“How much have I won?”
“$1000 boy, one thousand simolions”
He did a little dance and cheered for me. I just looked at him. I started to walk away but he caught my attention again.
“Say there boy, since I helped you could I have some of that money?”
I said sure and flicked the quarter back to him and headed home.
“Run, boy, run and don't stop until you get home”
Even though he told me to run I still walked.
'KATE'S POV'
James had been home for a week and we had barley spent any time together. Its not like he was avoiding me. I was in the living room of his house. I sat on the sofa watching T.V. I'm not sure what it was. I looked at the title again and it was called 'Ernest Goes Outside'.
James had been out now for a couple of hours and I was beginning to get worried. Not that I was clingy or anything, but if he was going to be late he would give me a text at least. I continued to watch T.V. Every so often looking out the window to see if I could see James walking towards the house. I got up and moved to the chair, sat on there a moment, then moved back to the sofa. I couldn't sit still. It was the not knowing where he was that scared me the most. I'm sure I've already told you that but it was true. I hated not knowing. For all I knew he could be in an ally being beaten up by a homeless man. Somehow that seemed plausible.
I heard a noise outside and walked towards the front door. Before I could reach the door handle the door opened violently. James was staggering through with large bags in his hand. He went into the living room and put the bags down. I closed the door and joined him in the living room.
