"Guys, there's a girl stuck in the Heat-Haze!" Kano exclaimed, bursting into the main room of the HQ - an unusual occurrence in more ways than one.
He had interrupted everyone's absent minds as they searched around for anything to keep them occupied. Momo lay upside-down on the sofa, her arms spread out where people could be sitting, kicking her legs up into the air in a constant rhythm that partnered with the tune she was casually humming. Konoha was dreamily staring into the space in front of him. No-one could really tell if he was bored, as his expression was always blank and seemingly indifferent. Even Hiyori was so bored that she had resorted to listening to Hibiya's moaning about something-or-other, simply pleased that he had gotten her attention for once. Ene had plenty of things to keep her mind active, after all, she had the whole internet at her disposal. But maybe by now she had strayed a little too far in her surfing. Others were doing what they usually did, but with much less interest. Surprisingly, Kido was finding her favourite playlist a bore as she had listened to them that many times in the past few days.
"Run that by us again...?" Shintaro said emotionlessly while swallowing his last gulp of soda and throwing the can away (aiming unsuccessfully into the bin behind him) with a tilt in his head almost as if to fake his interest.
"There's a girl in the Heat-Haze and we need to help her, don't you agree, Seto?" Kano repeated slower, looking towards his brother seeking reinforcement.
"Er... well..." Seto in reply was rather flustered for what to say, "I guess so... We can't leave her there--"
"Exactly! You'll listen to him, right?" Kano scanned everyone's faces for some kind of recognition.
"But!" Seto cut in again, making his voice louder so his ignorant brother would listen, "We don't know who she is! Are you sure she's stuck?"
"Positive!~"
"Anyway, what's changed to make you so interested in this kind of stuff?" Kido muttered, taking out her earphones and glaring accusingly at him.
"Yeah! You must be up to something, Fox-eyed man..." Ene provoked from the TV screen which she had moved to to get a better view.
"There's nothing going on! Promise!" He pleaded.
"Like we could believe you, creep..." Hiyori scowled.
"Yeah, jerk!" Hibiya added, hoping to finally get into her good books.
"Don't steal my lines!" Hiyori shouted back at Hibiya, who consequently put his hands up as if admitting surrender. "You pitiful twerp..."
"You should remember it was me who saved you from the Heat-Haze!"
"Hardly! All you did was cry and wail and get... heheh he... lovely Konoha to do it for you." She retorted, throwing Konoha a girly giggle and a shy wave in the hope that his blankly staring eyes would see her. "You were lucky he's so helpful and kind! And likes me!" She continued, back in Hibiya's face.
"A-As if..." Hibiya fired back, trying to act confident and like he didn't care. Though really, he didn't know how to reply. And did care. A lot.
Everyone was extremely aware of the feud that had kicked up in the room. It was stopping everyone else's discussion and was more than embarrassing and annoying. Nobody dared to speak over them and knew that with kids, you've just got to let them be kids. Even if they are almost teens.
"Stop it!" Ayano stood in between both of them, her hands out like stop signs. She gave a wavering sigh of relief as they quietened down and stared silently, not knowing what to do next. "Come on, there's no need to argue! We were trying to have a serious conversation... Maybe you should go play in the park?" She carried on, her big-sister complex kicking in. As if that would help things, She thought to herself, rethinking what she had just suggested. It left both Hiyori and Hibiya extremely patronised and insulted at this fact.
