"Dear, wake up! Today is the day!" Mom, the Queen, reminded me in her usual cheery tone.
" Mom do I have to? Can't I just be home schooled?" Just the thought of going out and meeting the people who live in this village horrifies me! I've seen what their houses look like and I'm supposed to act like everything's normal?!
"Yes, you'll be a much better ruler of you get to know our people." She replied.
" I already know them. They have small houses and work to earn the food and clothes we give them." I recite just like I was taught.
" There's more to them than meets the eye." Mom says as I toss my backpack over my shoulder like villagers do. " Now off you go. You don't want to be late!"
"Bye Mom! Love you!". . . . .
IN THE CAR
"Now make sure you you eat how I taught you, NEVER mention that your royal, Do not introduce yourself by your real name, Books are to be read- not placed on your head, don't be cocky, pay attention in class, and most importantly... Have fun!" Lectures our top butler from the front seat of our black-cherry red Subaru.
"Yes, of course Joseph!" I get out of our car, wave bye and turn around to see my new school. * gulp * This is going to be tough.. . . . .
IN CLASS
" Alright take your seats!" Everyone sits down seeming to know each other. "Now I understand that there is a new student, Kacey Lane would you like to tell the class about yourself?" She stares right at me, and so does the whole class. Oh great...
" Hey, I'm Kacey." I start. "I just moved here from California. I'm into soccer. And uh... That's pretty much it" That was the shortest speech I've ever heard, but they seemed to like me or at least Kacey. They give me "high-fives" on the way back to my seat, and I remind myself that they aren't slapping me.
Mrs. R. Goes on for a while about how high school will be tough and our groups of friends will hold us together like glue as long as we make the right choices. She informs us that we will be learning the classic books and how she loves them.
After class the girl who sits next to me introduces herself. "You seem like a pretty cool girl." She says. "I'm the captain of the soccer team, Tessa" We shake hands.
" Cool! So was I back in California." I tell her.
"Nice, looks like I'll have some competition." She laughs and so do I, since I've heard that people say that as a compliment.
She then asks for my schedule and sees that we have a few more classes together. I didn't know there were actually some people in the village that aren't poor, which gives me some pride.
. . . . .
LUNCH
"Girls, this is Kacey. She moved here from California." Tessa shows her friends, and most of them look pretty cool although there is one girl that looks kinda scary. She has dark makeup on and looks like she's ready to punch someone.
"Hi I'm Paige!" A blonde girl next to Tessa says in a peppy voice.
"We've been on the soccer team together since we were like, five." Tessa explains, almost as peppy as Paige. " So have Wendy(she points to a girl with a purple shirt and black hair), Stacy ( who's wearing a nice white shirt and has red hair), Daphne (wearing olive green and has brown hair), and Greta ( the one with dark makeup)"
"Great! Well it'll be cool playing with you guys!" I respond like the previous two, and sit down in the empty seat between Paige and Greta.
"What makes you think you can sit with us?!" Greta says angrily. There's a pause...
Then they all start laughing.
" Ha, you were really scared of me weren't you?" Greta smiles.
"Yeah, I didn't know what to expect." I laugh along nervously. I thought she was actually going to hurt me and I'd have to call the guards.
" Well you don't have to worry I'm not that horrible!" Greta assures me.
" Good, because I was starting to worry" I joke.
"Anyway, soccer practice starts at 4:00 tonight. But, Kacey you should go at 3:30 for tryouts" Tessa mentions.
"Cool! I'll tell my parents." I respond. "Oh yeah, at my old school I was the captain of the soccer team, but I wouldn't want to cause you any trouble." I continue with my fake personality, but there wasn't an "old school in California" last year I was on the global princess soccer team that's probably a lot harder than our school's soccer team. Right?
