OTHER THEATRE PEOPLE, HELP ME OUT!

I've been wondering about something since eighth grade.

I've always heard that in theatre, you make friends, and you bond over music and stories. In some cases, I've found that to be true.

I'd done some acting when I was little, but never with a REAL theatre experience. Also, I hadn't really been raised with playsbor musicals. But I knew one thing- I loved to act, and I was natural on the stage.

So I was pretty confused when I got into the Green Room. I expressed my concerns to some 9th graders, along with the facts that I'd never heard 'Defying Gravity' or 'Do You Hear Tlthe People Sing'.

I thought that someone would take me under their wing, teach me showtunes, and give me acting tips. I was surprised and hurt when they laughed and said that if I didn't know "Broadway Basics" I would fail.

It was my stage-scared, musical-loving friend who finally helped me.

But the point is- what's the truth? Should I help newbies, or be cold and rude?

Please tell me.
