Did I really?

Interrogation

I slide open the door. "Um, excuse me.. You two are being rather loud and i can't manage to sleep..."
They both quickly turn to me.

"I'm sorry Mayu-chan! But must i say, you're in much better condition then you were the last time i checked up on you" Nichi scratches his head "You've always been a fast healer"

Wait a second... I know this boy... His face is all too familiar...

I walk up closer to him "Excuse me sir, where do i know you from?" i asked, after doing so Nichi's face started to turn a bright pink colour.

"Well.. I-I'm uh..." Nichi's voice was trembling, i could practically hear his heartbeat out of his chest "I'm a pal from school, we're pretty close.. A few times when we were younger you would say 'I wish you were my brother! Then I would get to see you all the time!' Heh, it was cute.."
"Eh? Cute?" i tilt my head

"I-in a little kid kind of way! Now i probably sound like a creep.." Nichi sighed "i'm sorry for being a bother Maya, i should have just left you to your own devices"
Maya snickers, i was still confused. "Please define for me... Cute?"

"wait, how can you be using all these complex words and not know the definition of cute?" He chuckled with a slight blush. he pulls out his phone from his jacket pocket and picks out a photo to show me "You see how these two kids who are small and kind looking? That's what we call cute. I've heard that people also call it that to remember that an acute angle is small.."

He showed me a picture of two young kids, wrapping their arms around eachother. One of them really looks like Maya, I'm not sure though.

I look around and pick up a mouse of the ground "Is this cute?"

Maya screeched and slapped the mouse out of my hand "Don't! You'll get more ill then you already are!"
"But i think it's cute!" I pout "What do you think Nichi-kun?" I turn to Nichi, there was water coming from his eyes.

"Yeah, heh... i think it's adorable" he smiled at me, i felt as if a million mice were running around in my chest, softly in order not to harm me.

"Nichi, why are you crying?" I turn my whole body towards him

"Nichi! Please don't cry!" I call out, Nichi kept crying his eyes out. I run up to him and wrap my arms around him "Please... I don't like it when you're sad..."
Nichi was silent, until suddenly.

"Can you promise me something then?" His voice was wobbly and filled with fear "when we're older i get big and strong and you won't need to protect me anymore, I want to protect you!"

"If you promise to never cry and be sad again!" I smiled at him, he returned it.

"Deal!"

There were two children in that daydream, no doubt it's a flashback to something that has happened in my childhood.

"I'm not crying! I just got something in my eye..." Nichi tries to cover it up

"You broke the promise..." I turn away

"Wait- you remembe-" before he could finish i walk back into the room and shut the door.

"well i hope you're happy you dingweed! now you've made her more upset." Maya hisses

"Maya... She remembered something..." Nichi voice was trembling "From almost ten years ago..."
"what?" Maya didn't seem to be the nice person she was before..

"When me and Mayu were six, we made a promise. I fell over and hurt myself, then Mayu came to comfort me. I told her that i would stop crying if she would let me protect her in the near future, in return i'd never cry again"
