I sighed looking at the chat box. I weighed my options. What should I do? Well what could I do? She had already seen me on.
I clicked on the blinking chat window and typed back, "Hey Ellie what's up?"
I sat back and scrolled through my newsfeed liking this and commenting on that.
"Do you want to come to the mall tomorrow with me and Grace?"
I considered it for a moment. I did need a new pair of jeans after I ruined the last pair while painting last week.
“Sure what time?”
“Meet us in the food court at 3”
“K see ya there”
“Byee :)”
I sighed and closed my laptop. Why do I do this to myself?
Twenty minutes and four pieces of pizza later, I walked out to the backyard, lying down in the grass and staring up through the leaves of the big oak tree at the edge of our property. A warm breeze blew through the leaves and blew my bangs in front of my face. I tried to hold them in place, but the wind just wouldn’t let up so I gave up and let them be.
Soon the clouds blocked the sun and it began to get cooler. I peered up at the dark sky. Sure, rain on me, that’s cool. I got up and shut the door behind be just as the first drops of water hit the ground. I plopped down on the couch and reached for my phone, but it wasn’t there. I groaned, this was going to be a long day.
♥ ♥ ♥
I stared out the window trying to drown out Ellie’s babble with my own thoughts. Why did the mall have to be a 45 minute drive away? My dad ditched me for his coworker’s golf tournament and so I was forced to get a ride from the girl I dreaded the most. Fabulous.
Suddenly, Ellie started hitting my arm and bouncing up and down in her seat. “Eeeee! I love this song!” Her off-key voice filled the cabin of the truck as she belted it out. “AND WE DANCED ALL NIGHT TO THE BEST SONG EVER…”
I groaned and put my head back on the headrest trying my hardest to shut it all out. Needless to say, it didn’t work.
Once the song ended she began her solemn commentary on her life story. “…So I need a boyfriend like now. I just want to feel loved, you know?”
I raised an eyebrow and looked at her, “Why don’t you just focus on your friendships and your schoolwork and be happy with what you have instead of never being happy just because you don’t have a boyfriend?”
“Yeah that explains you and Dan alright. Why don’t you look at your own life before judging mine and telling me how awful of a person I am?”
“My word, Ellie, I never said anything like that I just said – “
“Save it. Grace understands me more than you ever could. And so did my ex. I just miss him so much; he’s the only one who understood me completely and…”
I swear I can never keep up with her and her bipolar self.
Finally we got to the mall and found Grace standing there waiting for us. Once she saw up, she threw her arms in the air, “Geez took you guys long enough! I was worried you started shopping without me!” She grinned and linked her arms with ours and we started into Sears.
The rest of the night was uneventful as all get out, but Ellie did a good job of not being too annoying. She didn’t have an emotional breakdown in the middle of Forever 21 like I was afraid she would. No, she just threw a sweater at the cashier demanding that they treat their customers with more respect. Apparently the item she wanted wasn’t on sale and she thought it should’ve been. Yeah, because the cashier is in charge of these things.
My goodness she’s a wreck.
