Rainwhisper waited in the bushes for a russet colored tom. She saw him swim across the river as rain poured from the sky. "Foxtail!" She said while running up to him.
"Yes?" the tom replied
"You're soaking wet!" Rainwhisper gasped slightly
"So are you," Foxtail purred. Rainwhisper looked at her own soaked fur. Why had they agreed to meet in this weather?
"Yes, well um..." Rainwhisper trailed off
"We can shelter there," Foxtail flicked his furry tail at a den.
"Well what are we waiting for? Let's get out of this rain!" Rainwhisper meowed before running into the den. There was fox scent, but it was stale. We should be fine. Spottedheart's patrol chased it out.
Foxtail settled down next to Rainwhisper. It continued to rain as they drifted asleep.
"Get out of here you mangy crow-food eater!" Foxtail's screeches woke Rainwhisper. Foxtail was missing clumps of fur and had scratches. Rainwhisper then saw the fox in the entrance of the den. Blocking any way of escape.
The fox grabbed Foxtail as Rainwhisper stared in horror. "Let go of him!" she wailed while scratching wildly at the fox. The fox started to back out of the den's entrance. Rainwhisper leaped on it before it could run away. The fox practically threw Foxtail while it tried to get Rainwhisper off. The fox shook her off before running away. "Foxtail!" Rainwhisper yelled
"Rainwhisper," whispered a small voice. The blue-gray she-cat whipped around to see Foxtail on the ground next to a rock. She ran over to the battered russet tom. "I love you," he whispered
"Don't worry, I'll get help. I'll find something or someone!" Rainwhisper mewed frantically
"Be strong," Foxtail barely managed to say. He had deep scratches from the fox attack. Fur was missing in places. His paws were muddy. Rain making his pelt wet again.
"Don't talk like that!" Rainwhisper wailed
"It's kind of ironic really how a fox killed me in the rain," He managed to slightly purr.
"You'll be fine, I just need to get you to camp!" Rainwhisper meowed urgently
"Never forget me," Foxtail whispered before closing his eyes and releasing his last breath.
"Never," Rainwhisper cried before burying her nose in his wet fur. And the thing is, it was ironic.
