Chapter 10: The Cottage in Fortdoel

"That was fun!"

"Exhilarating."

"Terrifying," James corrected, massaging feeling back into his legs. He sat on a handy little tree stump that they had teleported near. The duo of Mind Wizards Mad and Xeen set to work on getting his binders off. "I didn't even know if that would bring you to consciousness."

Xeen rolled his eyes, finding the mechanism and wedging it with a stick. He jerked it upwards, pleased to hear a crack as they sprung open. "You underestimate how many times we've had to wake up to your name being screamed before we were stormed with shit," the younger Mind-Wizard complained, twirling the binders around his finger.  The older one, Mad, only nodded, agreeing.

James's face heated up at that. He wasn't much of a powerful wizard, but a tactician he was.   The duo respected that more. It was a shame they weren't around as much.

Wizards were immortals, but they always had changing relationships among each other. Fyre didn't believe the Mind-Wizards were proper wizards. Unlike James and his fellow Wizards who were much more flashy, they were reserved and kept under the radar. The Mind-Wizards were considered low skilled in actual fighting, but had unlimited powers in terms of understanding the world around him.

He had once nicknamed Xeen, Intuition and Mad, Wisdom.  It always seemed one 'had a feeling' and the other 'knew it.'

But that find time had been one of the times he had taken a break from Fyre, but now he was on his own again. Neither Fyre or traveling wizards took part in his business.

"Well, I'm glad," James said, stretching as he was able to walk properly again. Miffed, he pointed his nose in the air. It was odd that the Wizards had simply crossed paths with him. "What were you two doing?"

"Traveling," Mad said.

"I was following the front line of the war," Xeen said. His eyes narrowed and he gave Janes a suspicious glance. "Did you know we're at war?"

"He's still drunk," Mad corrected, waving his hand towards Xeen. "He's been convinced for a month we're at war."

"But we are!" Xeen said. "A big war."

"Who's fighting?" James asked, as he started to pace the section of the woods they had teleported to a ways away. A small creak was nearby, almost run dry. A very low tree branch stretched across it almost like a bridge.

"That's Mad's job to find out," Xeen said sniffing as if offended.

"Oh, why couldn't you be obsessed with something important. Like James arriving or us being attacked!" Mad argued, but Xeen shrugged.

James ignored them for the most part, the duo never agreed on anything unless the matter was immensely serious. That had failed miserably, but his tracking spell on Jordan kept bouncing back and his tracking spell on Tom had disappeared shortly after the man was arrested. He was left asking Sonja or Tucker.

Well, scratch Tucker. That had been the worst possible scenario. He had been hoping he would be welcomed with open arms. He considered himself a friend of Jordan's. That was definitely not the case. James was likely on a wanted list now. Fun. Wizards were not perfect beings and everyone held them accountable for every little incident. It was like they expected Wizards to say 'hocus pocus' and everything would work out brilliantly.

"Where did you transport us?" James asked and he received identical shrugs from Xeen and Mad.

"No clue. Mad, your wisdom never fails, where are we?"
